shall we all club together and get him a hooker? does anyone know his type?
It can't be nice people, otherwise I certainly wouldn't keep coming back here.
I am sure we can find a dominatrix who will insult & belittle you, will cost more, but if that is what you want.

Cardassian it is!

And that's far more than enough of that. Back to the actual topic, if you please? :vulcan:

 sorry

but yes, has anyone else wanted to rewatch this episode but have been crippled by fear of the animated Graham Norton, and unable to start watching it, because you know the horror that is to come, I honestly can not bring myself to watch it again.

The animated Norton doesn't appear on iPlayer. Which is why I didn't see it and complained about the Daleks instead.

Great Part One! We get the Weeping Angels *and* River Song and creepy coolness and it's set on an alien planet. The Ring bit with the Angel coming out of the tv screen was very creepy. I loved the idea of the Catholic Church becoming a military (plus it's the bad guy from Tomb Raider!). Maybe it's just because I'm seeing this on BBCA for the first time, not on Skiffy or DVD, but the cliffhangers going to commercial seem to be really lame. Not just this one but all the S5 eps thus far.

Actually, given Doctor Who's pro-British political undertones (and, for that matter, Steven Moffat's pro-Scots message), I'd say it's more likely that Octavian was from the Church of England or the Kirk.

Excellent episode. And what makes it all the more remarkable is the fact that Matt Smith and Karen Gillan really nail their characters -- in what was the very first episode filmed of the season!

I could just see fans punching the air as Amy asked River if she was the Doctor's wife. And Amy herself got some great moments. Her "anyone need me?" query reminded me of Mickey Smith as Tin Dog. Great moment. That and when the Doctor did ... whatever ... to free her from her hypnosis. This is one of those moments I'll need to rewatch with subtitles. Did she say he bit her?

Fantastic opening scene. I only wish the season trailers (for either BBC or BBC America, I forget which) hadn't spoiled this ages ago. Still, one of the strongest openings Doctor Who has had in a long time.

And I love how Moffat turned what was initially Doctor-prattling -- the bit about the ancient race having two heads, with Amy making a joke of it -- into something that turned the episode in a new direction. And the idea of revisiting the "consciousness maintaining communication after death" (last seen in Silence in the Library) was quite effective.

And now that I've seen the full ending -- I can perfectly understand why thousands of viewers in the UK were steamed when the animated banner came up on the screen!

Anyway, great episode and I think it's my first Fantastic rating of the season.

It occurs to me that the retcon of "anything that bears an image of an angel is itself an angel" causes problems when compared with Blink. Sally Sparrow had pictures of the angels in the folder that she gave to the Doctor. Granted, that's what could have been responsible for the Doctor and Martha being sent back to 1969, but then the Doctor should have known about the image projection, here.

Wasn't there a throaway line about the ones in London being bastardized offshoots, thus justifying any changes to their MO/abilities?

Sort of. The Doctor said they were "barely hanging on" as scavengers -- near the end of their lifespan, perhaps, or weakened somehow.

A good episode, I thought. Nice interplay between the Doctor & Amy and Amy & River, particularly. Boy, do I love River Song! Excellent character! The wife thinks that Moffat is particularly good at writing strong women. The "consciousness after death" bit bothered me -- too much of a rip off from Moffat's earlier Library scripts. I hope he's not one of those writers who simply recycles ideas that have worked before. After all, this two-parter combines two of his winners from past seasons (River Song and the Angels) and we've already had the Daleks and know that the Cybermen are coming again this season. I really wish those two baddies would get a rest for a season or three.

Great episode, best of the season! Loved the Doctor and Amy, and River was pretty good too! Lots of creepyness, and those dessicated Angels were pretty grim. Loved the scene with Amy and the Angel on the vid. Looking forward to next week, though I'm watching this one again right now on SPACE.

Oh, and did anyone notice that the exterior of the TARDIS when in materialized in space to await River appeared to be 10's? It was missing the white window frames and the St. John Ambulance crest on the door.

That was a fast hour. And I don't know why. The dialog seems to be much harder to hear this season. Not just the new hack of a doctor (yes, I'm trying to give him some time to develop) but all the characters. I know it's not just me since a coworker also mentioned this.

I've read a little of this thread but still don't understand about the dead soldier talking over the talkie similar to the library episode with his wifey. Or how the angel could come through the monitor.

At least it was better than last week but I'm still struggling to stay with it. Are they trying to make this version of the doctor seem real stupid?

Anyway, we'll see what happens next week.

Great tip Mr Light. Man that's too simple. Watching now with the subtitles... :)

And I've put this down for an Excellent. Still not keen on this Doctor yet.

Honestly, might be my favorite episode so far, though the angel bob bit was way too close to what they did with the Vashta Nerada. In fact, this seems a lot like the library arc with Angels.

I've been an on-again, off-again Doctor Who viewer, and I have to admit that this episode and Flesh and Stone are incredible. It makes me want to watch more episodes.

The consciousness after death thing has been in both River Song stories so far. They might make it connected to her somehow. Or she has a device with her we don't know about and maybe she doesn't know about. The writers don't seem to do this kind of thing at random.

And they seem to have "forgotten" the fact the Doctor has been late every time now except when picking up River in space. Would have been a bad time to be late, you know?
