50 Days of Voyager

[Torres] So underutilized, Kate thinks she's the only one with flattened bosoms, endless hairdoos, and 4 inch heels. Try adding a fake forehead to it too, Kate. You forgot your fellow actress on deck 11. :P

Roxann Dawson was capable of some very subtle acting, and I think the fake forehead may have hindered her a bit. You lose some expressiveness when wearing prosthetic, which leads some actors to overact to compensate. And, no, I'm not talking about Shatner and his toupee lol.

I think it would have been interesting if B'Elanna had had "corrective" surgery to hide her Klingon heritage. It would have fit in with her character history.

Day 42 – Tinker Tenor Doctor Spy

From the title I thought this would be a tribute to a John le Carre Spy story. It wasn’t but it was still fun. I like the doc although to be honest I am getting a little tired of his shtick. Part of this episode made me laugh especially the final line from 7of9. Enjoyable.

Next up is 6x10 Pathfinder.

This reminds me of the last convention I was at...Kate was going on about how long their filming days were and how early they had to get to the set. Roxann then goes "um...for those of us in make up, it was even earlier and longer"

This is one of my favorite episodes because it is just fun. His various fantasies were funny. My favorite part was with him and fantasy B'Elanna in sick bay and Tom and his silly wave.

She has talked about that, how it limited some movement with her eyes and she couldn't express certain things with her face. But I think she always had amazing expression with her voice.

Has anyone ever heard the story about when the episode Faces was filmed? She was playing both parts (fully human and fully Klingon). I think I remember reading that Roxanne's mother did not recognize her in the full Klingon get-up and thought it was a different actress.

I also thought when she smiled in character, she had a very sweet smile.

Yes I think that story is so funny, She said her mother told her that she was ok but the actress playing the Klingon was great. I can understand that, with the hair and teeth and more pronounced ridges if I didn't already know it was Roxann I would have thought it was someone else.

This may sound rediculous...I have such a girl crush on Roxann. I recently got to speak to her for a brief moment at a convention when her autograph line was very short and tried so very hard not to completely fangirl out on her. Also got a silly thrill that her table was right next to Robbie McNeil's table.

Day 41 – Equinox 2

Well that was disappointing. It wasn’t a bad episode but it was definitely a let down from the first half. Also I guess the EMH is fundamentally evil and the only thing keeping it from behaving badly is ethical subroutines (which take about 10 seconds to delete). And then there is Janeway who sent her first officer to his quarters for trying to talk some sense into her. This lady seems to get crazier by the season and I can’t believe Voyager has not mutinied yet. Every year she acts more like a kook and needs someone competent to talk reason to her and bail her out.

6x04 Tinker Tenor Doctor Spy in queue for tomorrow.
Agree in nearly all of your points. Didn`t like the direction Janeway got in the later seasons. I also didn`t like the end of the episode. I mean, she sent Chakotay to his quarter and than they speak about making a party and salad!!

I read a comment recently where someone speculated that Janeway's extreme reaction to CaptainRansom was a result of her guilt at finding out that her actions in "Scorpion" led to the destruction of Arturis' people in "Hope and Fear," which I thought was an interesting idea. A long term character arc with Janeway moving from rigidly sticking to her principles to her becoming increasingly pragmatic as circumstances change, leading up to her "breakdown" in Equinox would have been great imo. Instead the writers had her seesawing back and forth from episode to episode.

There could be a lot of reasons for her behavior. I have always compared it to Sisko going to extremes chasing after Michael Eddington. I think that durring her time in the Delta Quadrant Janeway has had to face some difficult situations, often missing out on things that would have possibly gotten them home faster if she had abandoned her Starleet principals. She stood behind her Starfleet oath. What Ransom and his crew were doing went against so many Starfleet (and general moral) principals that she basically took it as a personal attack on everything she believed in. Maybe she wa also a little scared of seeing a possible version of herself if she had not stuck to her principals.

I doubt that it was a long term arc and more a result of choppy writing from Voyager staff. The Janeway character seems like multiple characters because the writers couldn't figure out who she actually was. The only character with a proper arc seems to be 7 of 9 and she joined in season 4. All the characters from Season 1 suffered in terms of proper development especially during the 2nd season.

Day 43 – Pathfinder

I guess Voyager looks for any excuse to bring back TNG people. It’s kind of like trying to be cool by association. This episode has very little acting from the Voyager crew but I did enjoy Barclay. Also its amazing Deanna Troi still looks so good after all these years! 24th century plastic surgery? I do wonder about the whole premise of sending a message through a micro wormhole and the ability to control a deep space satellite from earth seems a little farfetched but I enjoying Voyager means ignoring plot holes. Also how can an incompetent and insolent employee like Barclay have such a nice apartment? I guess futuristic communism really works.

Next up is 6x12 Blink of an Eye.

Barclay is anything but incompetant. He is a brilliant engineer. Always has been. His issue is that he is socially awkward and paranoid.

Marina Sirtis used her own natural accent in Voyager and was wearing her own hair, no extensions or exaggerated 'do'. That's why she looks so good. I've always maintained that these women looked perfectly pretty they way they were...there was no need for all those silly do-overs.

I always had the impression that Barclay was good at his job, just not so good in social situations.

Yes, I agree with this. She was more natural and that looked great. Deanna greatly suffered from the 80's hair trends that were popular durring early TNG.
