3D interiors in Blender

This is a great compromise yeah. I'm quite fond of the angle of the wooden railing: it looks and feels "Galaxy" while still being it's own thing, especially with the lower railing. I dig it, although I'd maybe let the side railings and in a similar curve for aesthetic purposes. Not in a practical set, mind you; that would probably be a bit costly.

@Burning Hearts of Qo'nOs: Thanks! Mmm, no I never did a room like that. I guess the main shape would basically be the standard window set from TNG flipped upside down, but it would necessitate tweaks to the layout. You piqued my interest, I'll see if I can do something like that in the future for a personal project!

I can't wait! I've always wondered what they would look like! I imagine the standard quarters we see in the show with windows slanted up would look so much larger given the ceiling space.

Just wanted to drop in and say that I've been collecting sci-fi art since the mid-1970s, and lots of digital art since the Internet came along (I've been in this from the pre-WWW days :-) )

I've always wanted to learn graphics tools and I've done some Photoshop/Gimp along the way but never vector tools or 3D work, and it's these bridge designs that finally tipped the scales and motivated me to start learning CAD and vector tools so that I can do some of my own. Thanks for the inspiration !

Man, Rekkert..... When you and Donny post new images, I just get a smile on my face. All of the bridges on the previous page are stunning, especially that variant of the Generations-style Galaxy bridge, which is still my favorite version. Also really loved what you did for that Nebula class! Stunning work as always.

@Tomalak: Thanks! Yeah I hadn't thought about that but you're right, it's a fitting way to merge the Prometheus bridge with the Galaxy bridge shape.

@BorgMan: Yeah I see what you mean with those side rails, they're just the standard TNG handrail which was used in all kinds of "sets of the week", but it looks a bit out of place here hahaha.

@CaptainSerek: Thanks!

@Rory1707: Thanks mate!

@Burning Hearts of Qo'nOs: Yes, certainly more luminous, although the floor space would be less so I don't think they'd be as room-y. Perhaps for enlisted personnel.

@publiusr: Glad you think so, the colors are quite warm in a DS9 kinda way to me haha!

@Paul B. Hartzog: Ahh, always a pleasure to inspire people to get into art, it's never too late to start! Drop me a note if I can help you with any specific questions regarding the software! :)

@Mage: Haha, I'm glad to hear that!

Welp, the last few weeks certainly haven't been favorable. My neighbor started some remodeling and the vibrations damaged our side of the shared wall all along our apartment's living room and bathroom, not to mention they created a literal hole in our closet while trying to get to some water pipes (the walls on these units are very very thin). So besides having 8 hours a day of constant noises and vibrations for the last three weeks now the apartment is more damaged than before, so yay stress! At least the neighbor was very sorry and is gonna fix everything on my end, or at least that's what she says, I'll have to hold her to that. Also, did I mention my partner lost her job through no fault of her own last month? The fun just never ends here!

Well anyway, as far as Trek interiors, I've got two commissions pretty much finished but awaiting payment, so I just wanted to do a quick room for my own, and yesterday started work on the briefing room for the Constellation-Class USS Victory. It's basically a 2290's era version of the TOS briefing room.

I actually started this one months ago, but it never clicked with me and I never moved past the basic shape. Now I discarded everything and started over. The aft wall is a modification of the TMP bridge shell, with horizontal ribbing added similar to that on the TUC enlisted crew quarters. The main screen is taken from the USS Potemkin battle bridge, as that set was inspired on the TOS auxiliary control room, which shared its screen with the TOS briefing room.

I needed something to occupy the wall opposite of the screen, so I went with a couple "paintings" showing the HMS Victory, the 2160's USS Victory (of @Masao's Starfleet Museum), and the current USS Victory. Well actually it's a screencap of the USS Hathaway, the Constellation-Class in general could use some more love, it's really hard to find good images of it, either from episodes or fan made. Consider all three images (but specially the Constellation one) placeholders for now.

The flags flanking the paintings will be the UFP flag which is already there, and probably a Starfleet Command flag, which will be where the placeholder Fontana Station flag currently sits. The table is likewise just a placeholder for now, I'll replace it with something a bit more similar to this table from TUC, though I'll probably keep the TOS inspired shape, I like it.

Oh man..... I'm so sorry to hear about all of your misfortunes, not to mention your partner losing her job. Best wishes do two things really.... Jack and Shit..... But you still have mine. I hope everything runs its course and things will look better soon.

Sorry you've had a rough couple of weeks man. Hopefully things will improve for you soon.

Lovely work on the Victory! I agree that the Constellation is an under-used design, so it's great to see it fleshed out here. You really get a feel for the cramped old ship Picard described, compared with the palatial Enterprise-D.

Just out of curiosity, Rekkert, have you ever had any thoughts on what the bridge of the Vesta class would be like?

Thanks for the sentiment @Mage and @Tomalak, it is appreciated! :)

@Mage: Regarding the Vesta bridge, In fact I did actually start working on it once, but it was mostly just a combination of my USS Ross and USS Emmett Till bridges, with the colors of the USS Prometheus bridge. In my head it's still what it looks like, but it just looked too much like my other stuff to warrant doing it IMO. Mark Rademaker did create a layout of the bridge, and I thought about maybe merging my idea with his concept one day.

Thanks for the comments everyone, I'm glad you're liking the room!

I've finished doing the panels on the walls and adding those repeating rectangular labels they had all over the place in TUC, add added a support bracer between the side walls and the curved aft wall, so that the horizontal ribbing doesn't just end when it touches the side walls. I might add a potted plant in one of the corners by the screen, and a locker or some other prop in the empty wall between the door and the screen. Suggestions are more than welcome on what I could place there.

I've also done a new flag for Starfleet Command that's era appropriate, using the logo here on the pedestal and the 24th century flag as reference. I've tried a few different colors for the background of the flag, but yellow was my favorite of the bunch, not only due to the future flag also having it, but because it pops a lot more over the grey background, while also being very different from the blue UFP flag (yellow and blue are opposite colors after all, which might be why the DS9 Starfleet Command flag was done in yellow to begin with, as on its first appearance it was shown alongside the UFP flag).

@Rekkart: How about the model of the HMS Victory, that Geordi LaForge created for Captain Zimbata (from TNG episode “Dear Data”), be placed in the cornet between the door and the view screen or the opposite corner?

I hadn't see that USS Ross bridge before, I like that. And I can see a merger of both those sets working for the Vesta. I wasn't a big fan of Mark's layout for the bridge really.

I bet that would be a modelling challenge!

@Rory1707: This is meant to be the USS Victory as it looked in the 23rd Century when it's brand new, so it's some 70 years before that episode. ;) I briefly considered doing small (and far less detailed) models of all 3 Victories when starting this, but I settled on the framed paintings as they're more era appropriate, at least from the few interiors we saw from the 2390's.

@Mage: Must admit you rekindled my interest in that concept for the Vesta, I might revisit it sometime. ;)

@danellis: A challenge indeed, which I'm willing to take if someone with veeeery deep pockets is interested in a commission. :p

I've been working on the ceiling, and was looking to avoid the main lighting coming from the same standard extruded inset that I've used in other sets of the era such as the Fontana Station ready room and the Victory CMO's office.

I came across this large ceiling fixture from Voyager's 'In the Flesh' when looking for references on the Starfleet Command logo, and I wanted to do something similar for the center of this room. However I also wanted to incorporate some vertical panels, like on the officer's mess fixture from TUC. After several tests I wasn't happy with, @Donny gave me an idea and I ended up mixing the two concepts, creating a light fixture inspired on the one from Voyager, but with an added verticality to it which I think makes the shape more interesting.

Also, I noticed the main screen was placed rather low before, making visibility less than ideal; so I've raised it and changed the paneling around accordingly. I've also added the proper graphics for it, and a potted plant besides it.
