3D interiors in Blender

What's the plan for the sides of the raised section? It feels like it'd be weird to remain empty. Maybe a "Yesterday's Enterprise" or Battle Bridge style standing console?

Some more work on the Lafayette, I've integrated the new (well, new here, it's a reuse) aft section into the bridge. There will be a small rail next to the steps, and new chairs will be added to the back consoles, in a similar style as the integrated chairs from the aft of the TNG bridge.

I'm really liking this bridge.

@The Librarian: Most likely one of those vertical alert indicator panels, in true TNG fashion the idea is to not over-clutter the space. :)

@Ryan Thomas Riddle: Glad you are! :)

Work progressing on the Columbia wall consoles. As you can see, I'm keeping it very NX inspired, with the metallic handrails and the 6 overhead lights. Will be fun to see how I'll fill it up with LCARS, I already have a couple of ideas.

This project is such a cool idea! I love the bridge of the NX-01 and it's interesting to see how the general layout looks with a different aesthetic. It's interesting to see how close the configuration resembles the Defiant bridge minus the additional consoles facing the center.

cool, Love the Nx aesthetics.
going to do an front L shape for the 2 front stations like Hoshi's communications console?

Any chance of like a glass display like Discovery bridge for the center facing stations? or holographic?

@Csalem: Huh, never thought of it that way, but now that you mention it, you're right.

@Michael: Indeed, it's very close to the Defiant, even down to the table at the back. While unintended, you could certainly imagine that Sisko took inspiration from the compact Earth ship when designing the Defiant. :)

@valkyrie013: Indeed, those forward stations will have the L shaped bits. As for glass displays, I doubt it on this one.

Finished laying out the steps in and out of the pit area, adding the final ones in between the wall consoles; I know these are a bit hard to see now from certain angles, but they'll be more apparent once all the blue borders are added to the carpets. I've also done the rails, in the now familiar style I'm using for the Nemesis era.

Looking good!
the helm station seems.. off abit.. seems generic. Maybe do something like a Tng Ent D station, and include an Astrogator or something in the pillar? or have it a bit long, and have the chair on rails side to side?
I know your not done yet, so ignore me if you already have ideas!

@valkyrie013: Yeah it's not as 'NX-inspired' as the other consoles right now. Still, my client likes it, so...

No updates this past 10 days, but not for a lack of work. I shared some of my stuff on Twitter last week and received quite a bit of attention over there, including like half a dozen requests for rather small commissions. Some were simple recolors, or bridges identical to those already made but with one panel displaying different information, stuff like that. Here are a few that were a bit more involved, while still being relatively small and quick to do:

USS Odyssey NCC-2016: This is a Monarch-Class ship, thus a new MSD and some new LCARS were done for it.

USS Intrepid NCC-57859: This is the main ship of the 'Star Trek: Intrepid' fan-fiction. A refit Excelsior that by the 2370's was a mishmash of technologies old and new. It's basically the Potemkin bridge, but with Defiant-style consoles for the Captain, an Enterprise-B inspired back end, and new consoles on top of the rails at each side of the Captain, among some other small changes.

USS Philippa Georgiou NCC-2202: an old Constellation-Class ship still in service by the 2370's. The ship's Captain is a Horta, and as such there is no Captain's chair for them to sit on, but rather a small platform in its place. The helm console right in front of the platform is modified to include a small screen for the Captain, to which the viewscreen or any other necessary information can be casted.

Looks good!
Just an observation, Bridge modules can be removed and updated i'm guessing, why does the side stations stick with the 23rd century layout/ aesthetic? Why not make them look more like say a galaxy class or Sovereign stations but just in the smaller area? Just a thought, looks great either way! :)

@valkyrie013: While true, the counterpoint to that is, well, is it necessary? Starfleet can clearly update the software of these consoles over the decades, so why rip everything out and replace them when a simple fresh OS install would do? We see these sort of stations used all the time even by the late 24th Century in canon, so even if ships-of-the-line have brand new designs (and sometimes not so brand new... the Sovereign reuses the same consoles from the Enterprise-A), it seems that Starfleet chooses to keep older ships looking somewhat older on the inside as well.

Other than that, yeah, as with most things with these, "because my client wanted it that way" is also a huge point.

@batboy853: lol, I would love to see that!

Working on another small commission (have a couple more to do before going back to the Columbia and Lafayette), an Oberth-Class bridge belonging to the TNG era. The ship is the USS Hermes, which was described to me as 'very old' and 'on glorified freight duty'. The client wanted me to reproduce @Donny's USS Grissom bridge layout, but using pieces from the Potemkin engineering as to showcase the ship as... not particularly pretty.

Right now all the stations are manned as I simply copied them over, but some might shift to smaller standing consoles later down the line. I'll also include a small platform for the Captain as on the Grissom. More details are to be added at the back, near the viewscreen, and at the ceiling; but the basic idea is there.

I mentioned this on Twitter... folks curious about Starfleet Horta should look up the novel "Dyson Sphere", which describes Horta accommodations (I recall...) as Saddles. Our starfleet heroes even try sitting in them near the end of the novel.

I did some more work on the Hermes, but as I'm still waiting for client feedback on the latest changes on that bridge, I'll hopefully be posting that tomorrow. Meanwhile, here's the last of the small commissions I had going on, and it's certainly a different one (even if it's 99% a re-use)...

So, last week I did the USS Intrepid; and yesterday, by total coincidence, I was contacted by a different person about doing the ISS Intrepid bridge... This is the first Trek interior I do which isn't normal Starfleet (yes, I did one civilian craft but it was essentially the same).

The original request of the client was to have this one be basically the Potemkin bridge but with "evil lighting and red carpeting", plus the iconic Terran logo on the doors, and any other changes I might think of. Well, I could think of several small but unique tweaks to do... I added another step for the Captain, so that their chair is a bit more of a throne; I added a big Terran logo on the floor and another one embossed on the Captain's chair; and changed the whole LCARS pallet to better complement the yellow of said Terran logo. Plus all the colors around were tweaked in one way or another, everything is a touch darker than on the original Potemkin bridge. Since before doing any 3D interiors I was a fan of the bridge drawings done by Sean Tourangeau, including his 'Dark Mirror Universe' stuff, so I can definitely say some of that aesthetic was integrated into this bridge.

As stated before, most of this bridge was a rework of existing pieces I had, so it only took a day of work; still I'm very happy with how it turned out, I think it has an appropriately different atmosphere while still being similar to the Terran bridges we saw on screen. The logo being used, in case anyone's wondering, is the TNG era design first used in the Mirror Broken comics. That was another suggestion of mine, as the original intention was to use the Enterprise era Terran logo.

Nice work, I know small commissions like this aren't necessarily exciting but it's fun to see how small changes to the colors and lighting can produce very different results, particularly with the ISS bridge. I also like the idea of a Horta captain having a platform and ramps to use.

@TOMFAN: Thanks! Yeah, other than the Terran logos and the red lighting at the floor, the changes are subtle enough that they could work as a standard Starfleet bridge, even if they would be a bit out of the ordinary.

@SolarisOne: Haha, thanks!

@The Librarian: Thanks! Oh they are exciting in their own way, because they require to be distinct not through modeling, but through lighting and materials, and that's always challenging. :)

@publiusr: Yeah, exploring the inside of the sphere on a show with modern CGI would be amazing.

Here's an update on the Hermes. I redid the ceiling assembly and added some more spotlight lighting, to provide a less even illumination, indicative of an old ship. I also added the platform for the Captain, as on the Grissom (and same design I used for the ISS Intrepid, it was actually done for this bridge), and more details around the viewscreen area, including the dedication plaque. I also changed the chairs to bulkier versions as per my client wishes.

Finally, for the aft section, after testing some alternatives, we went with some access panels and overhead monitors, which will showcase a top and a side view of the ship, similar to the MSD of the Brattain. As you can see these LCARS are still in progress, but other than that the design is mostly finalized at this point.
