3D interiors in Blender

As an auxiliary control room this looks great. As a battle bridge, it's actually a terrible design. The only door opening directly behind the command officer's chair is a huge vulnerability, especially with it so close. But that's just me thinking tactically, I guess.

I mean, what's the difference between the two terms, really? In TOS we see the aux control room having a bigger command chair at the center position, and whoever's in command usually seats there. How's that different?

I made the distinction at having a dedicated "Captain's chair" with armrest controls rather than a console in front, but leaving that aside, it's essentially the same concept of a room.

And on a personal note, I hate the fact that the battle bridge is called that way, why does it have to be 'battle'? Why not 'auxiliary bridge' or 'secondary bridge'? And yeah, I know the original intent in TNG, but it's still a silly name if you ask me. :p

I really like the claustrophobic feel to this condensed battle-bridge/auxiliary control. :bolian:

I could see some Excelsior-class ship, marooned in a far corner of the galaxy like Voyager was, having to use this command center due to their main bridge having been destroyed.

The TNG novel Rogue Saucer had the battle-bridge used as an auxiliary bridge when the main bridge was knocked out with a energy pulse. Barrion I think, I haven't read the book in a while. One pet-peeve I have with the book is the author calls the Drive section (or Engineering section or Secondary hull) the Hull section.

@Gibraltar: Thanks! Haha, I could totally see that.

@jfttf276: Yeah, that's the thing, there are a lot of good reasons for using the "battle" bridge besides battles. It's an overly aggressive name for the laid-back Starfleet of the TNG era (and I'm surprised it got approval from Roddenberry, given he was at his roddenberriest in TNG's pre-production).

Finishing touches on the room. I've added a small inset frame to the viewscreen, and some blinkies. I just felt that area needed something. Also added the LCARS for the tactical console, and did the new panel for the left alcove, which is just a cheap reuse of the MSD LCARS, but with a side and top view of the ship rather than the bigger cutaway graphic.

I like the blinkies you put under the viewscreen — a nice TNG-era nod to the four slowly changing lights under the screen in the Constellation's auxiliary control room rather than the chasing lights we're more used to on full-sized bridges.

Nice work. It's very spare in terms of layout but there's plenty of details to make it interesting and I think it fits the intention as a transition between the TOS auxcon and a full on secondary bridge.

@Nays: Haha, those walls have to be greebled up with something. :p

@The Librarian: Thanks!

As mentioned before, decided to open up some more commissions given the 4 ones that are stopped beyond my control. This brings me to the bridge of the USS Lafayette NCC-65616, a New Orleans-Class ship, as it looked like after the end of the Dominion War. The layout will be a mix of the Enterprise-D and Odyssey, among other bits.

As you can see, the front end is pretty much identical to the TNG bridge, but the walls don't curve inwards at the top, they remain straight upwards. The aft section will be the Odyssey's; and the ramp will be replaced with steps at each side of the horseshoe (which will also be replaced by the Frontier/Ross style one). The ceiling will be brand new, but heavily inspired on the Odyssey/Frontier design.

The colors are just the TNG ones for now, but they will change later.

@Nays: Indeed! I'm kinda surprised we didn't saw more of those smaller consoles in TNG bridges-of-the-week.

@The Librarian: Oh, it's gonna be interesting! ;)

Will be working on the Lafayette bridge alongside another commission: the bridge for the Saber-Class USS Columbia NCC-82816.

True to its name, the bridge layout is directly inspired by the NX-Class. That means a totally new shell for the bridge, with mostly new consoles, done in the Nemesis style. I'm looking forward on working on this one!

Adjusted the outer circumference a bit to better match the NX bridge size, which means the room is slightly bigger than it was before. Keep in mind the outer consoles are just there to give a sense of scale for now, I'm planning to replace them with a totally new version, to better match the NX-Class shapes.

Doing some tests for the science/tactical consoles, keeping the shape of the NX consoles but with the era correct styling. Also, as you can see there at the back, I started work on a situation table, based on the design we saw on the Enterprise-E engineering.

Tweaked the side consoles some more, and did a new stand for them, that correctly curves along the circumference of the central pit. I also included a small Nemesis style handrail in front of them, similar to the one they had on the NX-01.

Also, as you can see, I started work on the wall consoles. Only the central area will have LCARS, and that's already a lot for only one operator (yes, the chairs will be on a rail connecting the two consoles at each station). I'll see what sort of detail I can add on the side "ears" around the console.

I'll be interested to see your next update; I'm curious how the railings near the steps will be placed, because it would be easy for them to accidentally make it awkward to access to that last bank of access panels.
