3D interiors in Blender

@Donny: Those were my first thought, but the end result isn't that much different, and the performance was substantially worst. I still have the test files for them though, and will try them again once the lighting levels have been adjusted. Maybe then the difference will be bigger, though I suspect not.
@batboy853: Actually, they needed to be smaller still haha. I adjusted their scale so that there's now the same number of "squares" as on the set piece. Unlike the bigger panels used on the set green walls during early TNG, these ones used inside the pad area are 'Sonex Junior' and have a much smaller pattern size.
I've also started work on the main room. It'll be based on the late TNG version, so no more acoustic panels here.
The transporter console however will be the longer version from the battle bridge, rather than the one used on TNG.

The lighting from Season 3 and on tended to be very flat; in Season 1 especially, but also in 2, the lighting was more dynamic, and much more interesting.
The green "columns" behind the platform were part of the frame of the set, and separate from the glowy yellow glass behind them.
For the "squares", you should prob add a low-level spec map; that"ll make it pop. That is when it needs to pop.

Dude!!! You just ruined my childhood! All that fancy detailing was just prefab STYROFOAM????? FML.

I've been working on the support columns for the side walls. They're far from perfect right now, as they're thinner than they should be, plus the corners bevels are a bit too big, but nothing that can't be fixed.

So.. even in the future.. they still have the soul sucking florescent lights.. 
They're not so soul-sucking when they're daylight color-temp or even full-spectrum.
I've recently replaced the daylight CF bulbs I had, but with daylight LEDs and only because of energy efficiency. I've been far less depressed in the Winter with the daylight bulbs than when I was using tungsten bulbs (3200K).

Regular bulbs, or now that there reasonably priced, LED's for me, Even those curly cue bulbs nipped at my soul.. I have those turned off in my office.. nice lamp with a nice warm bulb

Well, since those particular light panels didn't actually exist in the set, they are whatever I say they are
If they're a large ceiling panel, I believe they are scrim cloth.
Just checking out the thread here. Yeah, it was my idea for the ceiling of the transporter room to be like that. Sort of also fits with the ceiling of the sickbay set that Rekkert did for me as well.
The interiors of the USS Galaxy have a hint of what if Nick Meyer had a say of in the production design of TNG. That's why they have elements like deck hatches, fire extinguishers, etc.

I always try to keep the lights a bit on the warmer side for TNG-inspired interiors, as there's no escaping the fact that most rooms used standard set lights. (though for some elements like the conn/ops consoles I keep it blueish as those were neon). Still, it's perfectly reasonable to assume that on the future we'll find a better way to illuminate stuff more naturally without the disadvantages that cool color temperature solutions have today.
I've been working on another project a bit more heavily than usual this last week. I hope it's something that I can show you soon, but it's not up to me. Also, the Internet issues never really stopped, so that's been great...

It's good to have a door. It makes running screaming down the corridor that much easier.
