3D interiors in Blender

And now the Captain's chair LCARS are done!

I like your eye for detail, @Rekkert! I have a question: On what are you basing the LCARS graphic layouts? The captain's chair controls, for example, are they based on what they had on the show or are they completely your conjecture?

@M: Thanks! I'm basing them on the actual LCARS from the show. However, this not being the Enterprise I made some buttons slightly different and switched some positions around.

@Matthew Raymond: That's all behind the tactical station. :D

I've added some fire extinguishers and an access hatch at the front of the bridge and that finished the design! Here are some renders and the cutaway!

Absolutely gorgeous!

I'm astounded at how fast you work, not only with 3D but especially with your 2D LCARS work. Please don't tell me they're animated, too.

I may need to consult with you coming up soon if you don't mind.

@Scribble: Haha, thanks! I've certainly come to achieve a level of quickness in my work, but I don't hesitate to take my time when a certain mesh or LCARS requires it. Of course, whenever you need to feel free to do so! :)

I've been working a bit on the LCARS. They changed a lot between episodes in the first season, I don't know why. I tried to keep them as close as possible to the Encounter at Farpoint versions, but for some I had to use other episodes as references.

I imagine most of that was them trying to figure out what would work, burning out some of the screens with lights that were too bright, plus them putting black patches over the screens to hide glare before they made changes in later seasons to clear that up.

I guess this fits in here somewhat. I'm part of the team creating the Stage 9 project Enterprise-D recreation, and I've created a few sculptures of all the ships named Enterprise, similar to those seen on the observation lounge the first seasons, for use on said project. As the recreation is based on the season 7 interior of the Enterprise, these will be used in the corridor connecting the observation lounge to the bridge.

Every time I look at these I'm even more appreciative of the detail in the clean lines you've laid out in this. Bravo.

The sculptures disappeared after Season 4 when the Observation Lounge got refurbished following filming of Undiscovered Country, though they did come out of storage for the "Farpoint" segments of "All Good Things..." The sculpture was never updated.

Also, we never actually saw the connecting hallway (apart from glimpses through the doors on the bridge or in the lounge) because the bridge and lounge sets weren't actually connected, even though they were both on Stage 8.

Oh, okay. I misread what he was doing. If we never see the actual corridor, that's fine. Just like having the three sea shells in the bath room. :)

Cool! Since you've already added some ships that weren't there in the series, do you plan on adding any others, like CV-6?
