360 price cuts on all hardware in September?? Hmmm...

Sorry if it's been anwered before.

What's the current status of the 360?

My last infos were that it gets pretty hot, has problems with the drive and breaks down in about 25% of the cases.

I know about the new Elite models with HDMI output and i also heard that they introduced new main chips which generate less heat thus partly easing the breakdown ratio.

Now i'm considering buying a new one around Christmas or shortly after. I don't have a HD TV right now to take advantage of HDMI (and it may be another half to a year before i get one) but i was wondering what's in store for the future of the 360?

What's the model to buy to enjoy it for a long time with less risk of it breaking down? I can wait if the rumors indicate it will take another 6 months or so for the next updated models to arrive with better drives, even smaller chips and so on.

Just get a 60GB system when the price drops, you don't want a tard pack.

Demos, Xbox Live Arcade games, downloadable content, and optional installs on all games (coming in the next update) make owning a hard drive for your 360 a necessity.

Honestly, I really don't care about any of those things, except for maybe the optional installs if it makes a noticeable impact on loading times for the games I'd be playing, and being the patient guy I am, the last disc-based game which gave me problems in this area was on the original Playstation.

The other three are nice-to-haves in my book, not necessities. Full-scale downloadable expansions rather than little scraps of DLC might change my mind, especially for games like Fallout 3. The only downloadable game that I'm seriously interested in right now is Wipeout HD on PSN, and that sure ain't selling me a PS3.

You may not want those things now, but believe me you will want them, and if you buy the core pack you'll regret it.

I don't buy DLC for many games, but if I have a game I like, especially a multiplayer game, it's nice to have new content. Don't forget that you don't have to pay for all DLC, some companies have released free content (some of the Halo 3 maps and all of the Gears of War maps are free).

We're also seeing more full expansions on the Xbox, the Oblivion expansion can be downloaded, and GTA 4 is getting 2 expasions later this year.

Demos are a great feature. There's no better way to know if you want a game then trying it first. Before the Bioshock demo I had little intrest in the game, but after I played the demo I couldn't wait to play it.

The XBL Arcade has some amazing games, both new and classics. With most games costing $10 you can find a lot of good games on the service. Plus all XBL Arcade have demos, so you can try before you buy.

Don't forget that the 60GB model has a number of other extras. You get a free arcade game on the hard drive (Hexic, a fun puzzle game from the creator of Tetris), an ethernet cable, a component video cable (attached to the composite cable, seperatly I believe the component cable goes for $40), a headset and a wireless controller (just be sure to get a play and charge kit).

They really should have made the HD stock with all systems. But then they needed to have a low minimum price to appease the people that look at price without looking at what comes for the price.

There's still no word of when the next 360 revision will be released. The current 60GBs in the wild now are just old 20s with 60GB drives stuck on them.

And lets remember that those 60gig will in reality be about 53gig of actual usable HD space....with about 8 gig for the BC, and updates.

Ahhh.... no they aren't? Sure you weren't looking at the Arcade page or something? Here's a pic from that link.

You know what, i could have sworn when i clicked on PKERR's link about 30 Min's ago that it did say a price of $299.00......possibly could have been a misprint at the time.......I know it was that page because i was looking at the free games and i already have Forza II and how that $299.00 worked out about £150 if that was on sale here.

That $299 price was up on several deal sites, so Dell must've sold out of their allotment at that price if it's back to normal already.

Damn that was fast.
I read on another site that that deal was up only 40 min.

So i was just about to pack up my 360 send it off to MS to get repaired which was costing my £70, and i remember it went belly while i was playing COD4, so i power up the machine and open the drive and too my horror my £39.99 COD4 disc has a very nasty circular scratch all the the way round the disc.......I could not believe it.....so i try it on my Bro's 360 and its dead, cant be read by the machine, so i phone up MS and explain that not only has my 360 got two read lights but it seems to have also destroyed one of my game disc's in the process of dying.........the CS reps reply ,"The game disc is not our problem, but if the machine is scratching discs that's another fault that's not covered by the payment for the two red rings".....

So today I'm off to gamestation to sell the bloody lot, the faulty 360 can go on eBay, i am bloody fuming at that reply, i have dealt with MS support before but never have i had such a unhelpful and frankly arrogant person like that on the phone.

Try the towel trick, and cause an RRoD, get them to fix it all for free.

I tried that last week but all i got was a really really really dangerously hot towel and a 360 that felt like it was about to burst into flames....no red lights unfortunately,Plus first thing this morning i had already paid the £70 via credit card for the repair.......but i canceled that, which i might add the MS rep seemed quite happy too do......

I will no doubt get another 360 as it has some cracking games but it will be when they are priced at £99 for the console.

Cant believe this unhelpful idiot.:censored:

Oh well i still have the PS3 and the PC, so it s not all bad.

Typical, when you want it, it doesn't happen.
I wanna know what's going on with all these people who are either trying to sell you something, or help you out, all of a sudden becoming arseholes? Do they not know that's a good way to get people to turn on you, rather than encourage them to use your service?

I still cant believe it myself, i have dealt with MS support before and they have always been at least helpful, plus i have many times phoned MS back to let somebody know how helpful the person i was dealing with was, or filled in those little customer service forms that they send out..... but i got the impression from the reps voice that they just did not want to help in any way or that he just could not be bothered dealing with today's calls.........But the speed at which he cancelled my repair was astonishing.

Oh well their loss.

I've had a similar thing, although not with Microsoft my only complaint with them is that the rep seemed patronising, but was probably just working off a script anyway.
I called my ISP and told them the line was slow and his response was "What do you want, we've just made it cheaper, what else do you expect?"
As if the fact that it was now cheaper some how made up for the fact it was almost unusable.

Every time I dealt with MS customer support they were pretty nice, this was back in the early days of the 360 though.
