Hi all. I was just converted toa trekfan this january. I lovedds9and am now on season 4of voyager. I am a huge starwars fan who thought I wouldn't like trek but watched for a friend. Now I love the 77 starwarsfilm. LOVE! Butand iknoweveryone. Is ganna b mad idid not like startrek1 at all. My buddyhas given me 2 to watch. How does itcompare to thefirst1?

Hey kalskylander

I think the general consensus is that Star Trek II is a much better film than Star Trek: The Motion Picture as it returns to the roots of the original series more than the original movie. It's also got plenty of action, which the first movie lacked in spades but it made up for this in other ways.

Personally, I like both films but you should definitely watch the second Trek film as it's a true classic. Let us know what you think of it :techman:

A lot of people don't like Star Trek: The Motion Picture. It's very slow going. Wrath of Khan is a totally different kind of film, and a lot better. It's also the start of a trilogy: Although the films are stand-alone, Wrath of Khan, The Search For Spock and The Voyage Home are a continuing story.

hey thanks with 70 views and no post i was begining think i had everyone mad. I will put my thoughts up when I watch and thanks again for taken the time to give your thoughts. New to trek but lovin it.

Watched it. What afantastic movie!!! So diffrent then the first 1 Kirk and spock really stood out! The story was way cool. Is there an episode of the show with the backstory or was this a made up thing for the movie? Again great flick. Not what I expected. Hope the next 1 is just as good!

You want to watch the Original Series episode "Space Seed" for the backstory when Kirk met Khan.

Glad you enjoyed it!:bolian:

I totally agree with KingDaniel, I'm glad you liked the second Trek movie kalskylander. It's amazing when you go through watching the film series for the first time, for me it was like "What's going to happen next, I want to know NOW!" :)

Hope you enjoy number 3.

Wow, think about this...

Here we have someone who just watched Khan FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME. And to boot, he's never seen Space Seed.

I can't fathom that.

Of course, I had seen Space Seed before Khan. And I remember seeing Khan in the theater, and have watched it so many times over the years I can't even guess at how many times.

Add to that I've seen everything of Trek that has aired, all the movies, all the TV shows, all of it.

Would almost be worth being able to selectively erase your memory just so you could have the feeling of experiencing something like Khan again for the first time.

Wow.

er, I'd never seen "space seed" when I first saw TWOK. It's not like it's impossible to follow on its own or any less enjoyable without having seen the episode first.

Well, I came to ST: TMP in December 1979, having only very vague memories of Filmation's animated series and having just read the amazing TMP novelization. You can imagine my surprise, when meeting my first fellow ST fans throughout 1980, that most of the diehard TOS fans had hated the movie I held so dear to my heart.

TMP and JJ Abrams' 2009 ST movie would tie as my favourite movies of all time.

Thanksall for the comments. Ill have to try and find that episode. While it was mentioned how is movie3?

IV makes more sense if you've seen III, although a good chunk of III's events are recounted early in IV.

III to me at least feels a lot like II as well-both are sort of tragedies and have the same basic score by James Horner. Nimoy of course directed III and IV but III seems more TWOKish to me.

Kalskylander,

Star Treks II, III, IV are considered by many to be Star Trek's trilogy. Trust us when we say: see Star Trek III before IV.

Ill take that as really bad. Mayb ill just skip on to4

Oh for gosh sakes. You'll regret doing that. I like ST III very much. If you liked ST II, then just be content to watch STs III-VI in order and judge them all for yourself!

It's not like the world will end if you see a ST film that you don't like as much as the others.

Skipping III makes no sense at all.

Would you skip Empire Strikes Back in SW?

Back to the Future 2?

A lot happens in III, and it all flows into IV.

Ok I'm convinced. I will watch 3. I was watching the big bang theory from season 2 last night and man they where wicked slaming trek5
