$25 million on Friday night

It looks like "Star Trek" has a hit on it's hands. Projections have the new film taking in between $72-$75 million dollars in it's opening weekend. Equally as important the international numbers have also been great thus far.

Paramount has to be thrilled if these estimates hold.

Star Trek is alive and well!!!

25 million is certainly impressive for a trek movie. It would mean that it made more in one day than Nemesis did during its entire run.

Still, isn't that a bit mediocre for a big budget summer movie?

I aint taking my mum on Mother's Day.

The bitch used to make fun of me for liking ST so she can pay the $12 and go see the fucking thing herself.

Nemesis pulled in 40 something million IIRC.

No because a weekend total is fri-sunday so 25x3 . ST will make 70-90 million US only by Monday afternoon when the estimates will turn into finals.

If those numbers hold then the movie should do at least 200 million domestic box office, which would be great. :techman:

so Dennis, what'd you think of the movie? have you posted in the grading thread? that thing's gotten so humongous, I gave up reading it around p. 31.

sigh...

I don't see it till tuesday (with 3 non trek fans:techman: and 1 fellow trek fan) so I hope everyone don't burn themselves out I need to argue with the haters and slap them with the $$$ of dollars being made by this so called epic fail of a movie if you hear the haters

I honestly think that we need to keep watching it next weekend. I'm waiting until next Friday before I resee it (it's not only the first weekend that matters).

Somehow though this film has to pass 200M to even break even. The budget was rumored to be 150M and the advertising was 50M.

I get this feeling that the Angels and Demons crowd will see Star Trek if they can't get into that movie.

Some still report the budget as $130 which is clearly wrong and the same happened with Wolverine both are $150 movies. Biggest joke I heard was 140 spent on advertising, its big but not that big. At max I've heard $100 for ads and as little as $60 but am inclined to believe $100 million so thats $250 total. However not all the ad budget is directly connected to the production budget and making it a $250 total don't ask me how or why so overall the total would be less. Hence very early on Paramount leaked a $300 million worldwide total as good enough for the restart of the franchise but I think they were tring to protect themselves in the same way they lowballed a $50 million opening weekend figure.

$300 million would be clear profit pre DVD sales and other merchindise...but this movie looks set to smash past $100 million worldwide, which was a target set by Paramount since no other Trek movie had done that before and $200 million is looking possible in the domestic total. So pre anything else Trek could end up $325-350 worldwide and end up making huge amounts on DVD sales and anything else connected to the movie. At the end of the day when all is said and done paramount making way way clear of $100 million profit from a single Trek project maybe not TDK or Iron Man but come on thats huge for Trek and a 100% success with Word of mouth/New fans to boot.

Great news on the box office front. Hope it keeps up through the next few days for a big weekend. BermanTrek is dead! Long live JJTrek! :)

I guess thats good, but I'm still disappointed.

Don't be. It's a great opening. The previous best opening day for Trek was the $12.9 million STFC made in 1996.

This is also the second largest opening day for any live action Paramount film, only behind "Iron Man." So the studio should be thrilled.
