Re: 24: SERIES FINALE - Day 8: 2:00PM - 4:00PM - Discussion and Spoile

I thought this was pretty great. I love Jack. Hate to see him go, but he went out well. I was seriously rooting for Suvarov to eat a bullet, followed by Logan, but triggering WWIII just wasn't Jack's style.

Still, with what did happen, the world just became a very dangerous place: the US is humiliated, vulnerable and uncertain, the IRK is unstable and isolated and the Russians just leap-frogged over Al Qaeda/the Taliban, North Korea and the Chinese (24-verse) as the world's biggest assholes. Cold War II just started.

Of note, a first for me on this show, I found myself not only sympathizing with the IRK's shitty situation, but supporting them against the US. I was totally ready for Season 9 with Jack hiding out in the IRK while they try to get out from under the bootheel of the increasingly insane Taylor Empire of Peace at Any Cost.

I think a 24 movie would be best served as a personal piece about Jack, on his own, or with limited aid from the handful of surviving regulars. He doesn't need to save the world anymore. Something in the vein of Redemption would be great.

(And Renee was the hottest and best match for Jack. Audrey was alright, but too whiny. I kind of like the idea of Jack getting sniped instead of Renee and her going all-out Badass Bauer for the last 8 episodes, culminating in the assassination of Logan and Suvarov. Hmmm....Alt-24-verse?)

The next president of the United State (Mitchell Hayworth) is going to have a shitload of problems and the least of them is Jack Bauer. The most pressing problem is Russia, who will be exposed as having given IKR agents a dirty bomb to set off in America. No one wants a nuclear war but how to respond is going to put the country in a very tough situation. Second is the relationship with the IKR might be destroyed permanetly. The peace treaty Hassan worked so hard for my die with him and the radicals in the country will be inflamed when they hear what Taylor did. Add to that that the United States of 24 is still riddled with massive corruption, mole problems, and ineffectual terrorist response. Also, you have the embarrassment of having another President, one known for her integrity, going to jail. They can't give Taylor a sweetheart deal like they did with Logan (I don't think Taylor would accept one). An example has to be made with her.

I was thinking Jack could go to the IRK but there are a lot of anti-Hassan people in the IRK and Jack would be going into the lion's den.

24 does end in a downer because the mission of CTU ended in utter failure. Hassan dead, the peace process dead, an honorable president resigning in disgrace, a very messy situation with Russia, and Jack Bauer on the run. Not good.

Re: 24: SERIES FINALE - Day 8: 2:00PM - 4:00PM - Discussion and Spoile

Howard Gordon was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly. He has a few cool things to say (like what he thinks Renee did to Alan Wilson) but again gives answers that shows why this show had to be cancelled.

When asked if he knew the Russians were going to be the villains from the start, he said he had no idea. This explains the lack of any motivation for the Russians actions. He also said that he originally had another storyline in mind for President Taylor but changed in mid-way through. That explains her out-of-character behavior.

So, at the beginning of the season Gordon had no idea what Dana's pass was, had no idea the Russians would be the true villains of the season, and had no plans for President Taylor to go to the dark side. Great work as always, Howard.

At least he admits he had no clue, which is more than can be said for a lot of other writers of serialized TV.

Re: 24: SERIES FINALE - Day 8: 2:00PM - 4:00PM - Discussion and Spoile

Right now... the world and nation is a better and safer place... Well, sorta. There mas a multi-national conspiracy to cover up the murder of the leader if a Middle-Eastern Nation that involved the heads of two major world powers and the former head of a world power who was already disgraced for dicking around in international security. WTF, politicians? What. The. Fuck? I choked-holded my one and only friend... I think she kind of liked it. Truth be told, I liked it too. Yeah, baby, let me hand-cuff you give me that angsty pout, yeah... Ahem. Anyway I'm on the run again. This time I've got a bullet wound to my shoulder, two different stab-wounds to my gut, one was hastedly sewn together by a politican. I'm on the run to get out of the country as soon as I can before a shit-storm hits me which means my only choice is Canada. Wait... what is it Fox news told me yesterday afternoon about Canada's healthcare.... Oh shit, I'm Jack Bauer and I'm going to have to wait six weeks to get a saline drip, some stiches and a full course of antibotics.

The previous took place between 12:00 AM on the day of the 2000 California Primary and 4:00PM fifteen years later.

Events occured by having fifteeen years pass over the course of nine years and, yes, America hasn't had a President get elected and then finish their term for almost that same amount of time.

Excellent as always, Trekker. :techman:

I do have some quotes I'd like to post myself but I'll do that a little later.

Re: 24: SERIES FINALE - Day 8: 2:00PM - 4:00PM - Discussion and Spoile

All the up's and down's of 24 I thought it was a real nice but bittersweet end to the story (until the fuck it up with a movie that is).

Let's face it Jack's the type of person who can never have a happy ending. RobertScorpio compared Tony and Jack to Batman and Superman, but I think that Jack is more of a Batman character: he's a tortured soul who sacrifices everything for the greater good, and because of this he can never have a happy ending.

That clock counting down to zero... really brought home that this is the end. I'm really going to miss Jack Bauer.

Re: 24: SERIES FINALE - Day 8: 2:00PM - 4:00PM - Discussion and Spoile

Some dialogue that would have been funny to hear.

Jack: "When you first came to CTU, I never thought it was gonna be you that was gonna cover my back all those years. And I know that everything that you did today was to try and [sic] protect me, I know that. I just wanted to say...that you looked a hell of a lot more attractive when your hair was blond."

Chloe: "Fuck you, Jack! FUCK YOU!"

Taylor: "We're both going to have to pay for our crimes."

Jack: "Yeah, Madame President, I don't really do that whole 'pay for your crimes' thing. I only commit crimes, I don't actually pay for any of them. Except in China."

Re: 24: SERIES FINALE - Day 8: 2:00PM - 4:00PM - Discussion and Spoile

Wasn't able to watch it last night but just finished thanks to Hulu.

That was a great last episode/episodes. Very well done I thought. They were able to get a good scene between Chloe and Jack in. Jack biting an ear off, Logan murdering his assistant before trying to off himself, the acting by Prez Taylor was well done etc.

All around good stuff. Yes, the ending was a little Dark Knight but I thought it was a perfect way to end everything.

I was entertained.

I beg to differ, but...

Heheh.

I prefer brunettes but I always thought Chloe looked better as a blonde.

I thought so at first too, but after a while I think MLR sold me on it. But, I prefer darker hair too.

Re: 24: SERIES FINALE - Day 8: 2:00PM - 4:00PM - Discussion and Spoile

So, I was wondering. I've read and heard things over the last couple of days/weeks that've made me scratch my head. Now, normally I don't follow any pre-season stuff like cast and crew interviews and the like not from fear of spoilers but simply because I do not care.

But from stuff I've heard and read the last couple weeks I really got the impressiont he writers and producers of 24 this season pretty much had no clue what was going on or what was going to happen.

Now, granted, most TV series don't even the more serialized ones don't likely have anything more than a rough outline. Even 24's first season wasn't written past the episode where Jack saves Kim and Teri at the compound which explains the BS that comes around in some of the last half of that season (like Nina being a mole (which was great but doesn't jive with her actions during the day) and Teri's amnesia.)

Other seasons are little more obvious they're making it up as they go a long (*cough*Season 4*cough*) and, IIRC, it was said that Season 7 was the season they had the most opportunity to plan things out more (due to the extended hiatus period due to the WGA strike). But Jesus this season just seemed really bad in that regard.

Entire sub-plots and such didn't make sense or jive with what we've seen before or know about these characters, infact mostly towards the end of this season everyone was out of character (even Jack to an extent.) At the begining of this season we were told/heard that great things were going to be done with Chloe (nothing really great happened with her, infact her problems with the new CTU system seemed to be dropped pretty quickly to the point where she was able to completely jury-rig the damaged system in the middle of the day) and, of course, there was the BS with Dana where the producers said they had no idea what to do with her and then just decided to make her a mole. Which. Was. Just. DUMB! Her character was useless the first half of the season, had a nonsense sub-plot that was taking over the show and then suddenly she pulls a 180 and is someone completely different.

So what gives with the writers this season? Did they see the "writing on the walls" early on and just decided to phone the whole thing in? I'm not sure on the exact reasons 24 was canceled but if it had to do with ratings then, well, I'm not surprised as the first half of this season was terrible. And the second half was pretty good even though at a point everyone started acting a bit out of character (none of Taylor's behavior since daybreak made any sense or was consistant with her character) and they used every 24 cliche there was. (A mole, a president not finishing their first goddamned term in office!) And, comeon! Where the fuck was Aaron Pierce?!

Loved the series, great, great series. This season was weak, though, and it shows the writers didn't give a shit what was going on and that they had no clue either. I'd rank this season second-to-last. (Last, of course, being 6.)

Re: 24: SERIES FINALE - Day 8: 2:00PM - 4:00PM - Discussion and Spoile

I thought it ended on a hight note. But you're right. Kiefer seemed to suggest they knew six months ago it was over, yet I thought it was only decided in March..so what gives?

As for Taylor's behavior? Yes, it seemed it bit too much, but give her credit for taking the blame and quite possibly going to jail for it.

I would start another thread, but im not, in the interest of interstellar peace. But who do you all think will play the president in a 24 movie? I say someone like Denzel or maybe even Ms. streep...

Meryl Streep playing the POTUS in an action movie?

Riiiight.

I think speculating on who will play POTUS in the movie is foolish as we've no way of knoqing. Any guessing would be just that. Guessing.

Re: 24: SERIES FINALE - Day 8: 2:00PM - 4:00PM - Discussion and Spoile

BUt guessing is fun to do. I keep hearing it will take place in Europe anyway, so I guess we should be guessing who will be playing the President of France. How about the dude who played Leon..or better yet..the guy who played Leon as the villain!!! I could see it
