$212.5M Offer to Move Coyotes to Hamilton

I still don't like the idea of another team in the Southern Ontario region.

If it's coming to Canada, put it back in Winnipeg where there is plenty of fan potential.

While the deal makes total sense, especially for all teams in the NHL thanks to revenue sharing, I'm sure that greedy little New York lawyer Gary Bettman will somehow work enough behind the scenes to get it rejected by the board.

Bettman has already said that the league doesn't abandon cities, it fixes the problem. That kind of gives you your answer right there.

Yeah totally, like in Winnipeg and Quebec City.

Bettman's problem is that he is more concerned with fans who will never pay attention to or go to games (sun belt Americans) over fans who would give their left nut to go to games (most of Canada).

I wonder what the owners think of that comment though, with the league doing revenue sharing now it means the owners are paying to keep Phoenix afloat - if they can find someone to take that off their hands, they're likely to accept but Bettman's comments don't really encourage investors to step forward.

It's not necessarily Hamilton. It might be the Kitchener-Waterloo area.

Which would be awesome.

I thought Balsillie's been looking happier lately.

That is, until Bettman fucks with that...'cause the real story is he doesn't want to lose American teams to Canada.

i don't support Bettman in this, far from it, the troll should've been removed from power years ago.

Balsillie, though, rubs me the wrong way. It's not that I'm against a team coming to Canada, but why Southern Ontario. There are fans out west in Winnipeg, who had the Jets ripped from them originally.

If Balsillie wants to do something for Canada, how about putting the team back in Winnipeg, where it belongs!

I'd be more than happy to see the Coyotes get snatched away back to Canada.

If hockey ever becomes the soup de jour in Arizona again, I'd rather have an expansion team that we can call our own from the beginning.

Yeah totally, like in Winnipeg and Quebec City.

Bettman's problem is that he is more concerned with fans who will never pay attention to or go to games (sun belt Americans) over fans who would give their left nut to go to games (most of Canada).

Phoenix has a better TV market, which is the reason for the move. Still, I always support more Canadian teams over southern teams.

Hockey in Arizona was always a stupid idea anyway.

Agreed.

Does make you wonder about the long term viability of the NHL as it's currently constructed, though.

Agreed x2.
that little sawed off runt Bettman doesn't care

Didn't they just leave Canada for Arizona a few years back? Why the move back?
Yes they left Winnipeg
If He (Bettman) wants them in a US City what about Portland Or.??
the league could always use a wesy cost tem to cut down on travell for west coast teams??

This is the fourth team in three years Balsille has attempted to buy and move to Hamilton. Fuck him. I'm siding with Bettman on this one. I despise moving teams.

Even if the Coyotes do move, they should stay in the West.

Good for him for continuing to try. When Quebec & Winnipeg left, times were certainly different. There are half a dozen places in Canada where a team could be planted and be enormously successful, including those two failed markets, I believe.

Phoenix, Portland, Kansas, Vegas... give me a break.
