20th Anniversary of TrekBBS Avatars

I know that on 9-11 two of our members had views of the Twin Towers, one from the rooftop of his apartment building and the other from his office across the river.

IRC reminds me of when ICQ, AIM, MSN Messenger, Yahoo's messenger and all the others were the way to socialize. Every so often there would be a large party in ICQ of dozens of people, although I don't know if TBBS ever had those.

I lurked for a few years before joining in 2007, I've had innumerable avatars, but I believe this was the first one:

Here are a few avatars from the great sombrero meme of 2008:

I still think I was one of the fastest newbie-to- mod in trekbbs history (sometime like 5 months or so from joining). I think it was 'cause I was a big Janewayite and Lisa was too! Lol

Same story for me. I don’t remember how quickly I became a mod, but it was relatively fast. Lisa and I interacted a lot on the old J Team site. Good times.

And ICQ...if you were on staff you had to have it.

On top of my head-

From my early days...
-Finn as a pup, laying on the floor by the desk
-The Space Needle

Recent years.
-Kai Hillary during the 2016 US Presidential campaign...
-My gorn ship painting
-the current DS9/Starfleet ship hybrid painting

I can't remember the rest....

'Cause Christian didn't use anything else!

Wow this thread is a blast from the past. It's nice seeing some of the old avatars return, even though three pages in and there haven't been any Sombrero avatars posted yet, and I don't think Samuel T. Cogley posts here anymore. That whole era (before the first Kelvin movie came out) was weird.

But, like, a good weird, right?

<-- one of my first avatars, found the original pic so I could recreate it and make it a little bigger, the original was at 75x75 pixels IIRC

How many old-timers here have changed names? Not you, Amaris, I KNOW you have!
I have twice. My old account from 2000-2002 was locked and got deleted in one of the crashes. I returned briefly to post in the farewell thread when my friend Kelly died but used a different name so as to not attract the attention of trolls and bullies.
When I finally returned a few years ago I chose a name that was only a few minutes old and the result of a tongue twister (or finger twister, rather) in Terranchat :)

Yep, I really joined back in 1999! I guess that makes me one of the oldest (though not most productive) members here. I remember that in those days, Trektoday was THE place to go for Trek news. I've always loved this forum, and I remember in 'the early days' I created several long threads (like 'Would you have sex with an alien?' or 'Is it right to kill a hologram?'). Good times - and still going!
Don't be a stranger! Post more often, please! We could do with such interesting topics.
Have you always had the same name?
