20th Anniversary of TrekBBS Avatars

I'm lucky to be T'Bonz. Lisa didn't changes people's names at the time and I had some duller version. My account got wiped out in one of the infamous crashes of the early days and to compensate me (not that I really cared about that, as long as I could come back), she let me choose a new one. Yay.

I've thought of changing it since, but I've almost always been T'Bonz here.

How many old-timers here have changed names? Not you, Amaris, I KNOW you have!
*looks appropriately shocked and appalled*

It astonishes me how many posts Eddie has.
Agreed. I love it, though. This place would not be the same without our most prolific poster.

I've been through 3 that I can recall. Back in the wild, wild days of the forums.

Any way to find an original Joined date from before those crashes? I'm sure I started in 1999 with the same username.

I have more posts than the #2 and #3 most prolific posters combined.

How many old-timers here have changed names?
I have, once. The orange username must have been the price I paid for it. :p

I've thought of requesting another change, and may still do so at some stage. The OZ abbreviation does work, though.

I can't remember all of mine by a longshot but I do remember the following in no particular order:

-The Burger King
-Another Burger King
-An even creepier Burger King
-Torgo from Manos: The Hands of Fate
-Torgo the White from the episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 where TV's Frank ascends to Second Banana Heaven
-A somehow even more creepy Burger King
-Me
-Another of me
-Another of me but this time in black-and-white
-My face Photoshopped onto the Balok puppet's head
-A Burger King that is creepy even by my lofty standards
-Dude, seriously? Another Burger King? How are you not on an INTERPOL watch list?
-Carl Spock
-Carl Spock on the bridge
-Santa Carl
-Carl O'Lantern
-Carl Spock artwork incorporating his afro and face into a Starfleet delta insignia
Every time you change to a non-Carl Spock avatar I keep thinking that you don't look like yourself.

I know the feeling. Both, actually. I can still do the 300 posts a week thing easily but am busier than I used to be and just don't post nearly as often as I did back in the day. My record for most posts in one day may be about 300 and that was many years ago.
That Shouting Spock thread sure helped with the post count! ;)

So did the 3/5/7-word story threads. I don't post much in them anymore since people seem uninterested in actually creating a story that lasts more than 2 posts.

Wow this thread is a blast from the past. It's nice seeing some of the old avatars return, even though three pages in and there haven't been any Sombrero avatars posted yet, and I don't think Samuel T. Cogley posts here anymore. That whole era (before the first Kelvin movie came out) was weird.
I made Sombrero Borg and Sombrero Tribble smileys; they would make very small avatars if anyone wants to use them (since apparently we can't have new smileys here).

How many old-timers here have changed names?

I'm still using the name I originally signed up as.

I actually have a really difficult time coming up with user names, and struggled a lot with what to go with. Once I started using this one here, then I did also use it at some other sites too... most of which are now defunct.

I have many times thought I should change it to something else, but the dialogue usually goes something like this:

Me: I should change my user name.
Inner Voice: Uh huh, OK, sure. And what are you going to change it to?
Me: ...
Inner Voice: Yeah, that's what I thought.

Same name because i had no idea it could be changed, BUT!, how many can tell you what they had for their tea 17 years ago while surfing TrekBBS and deciding to join. lol

Still got the same name even though it is now meaningless. I can't remember what my first avatar was, though. Might have to dig around the Wayback Machine!

I don't think I had many avatars. I was really against them back at the beginning and only soften my stance when I was drifting away from this site.

I remember however a lady on Terranbbs (Starsny? Shatny?) had a whole bunch of blank dollz we could use and customize. I remember doing one in the St George Dragons colours, (Orac Zen recognised it) but I lost it and all the other versions I made after the hosting site I used stopped working. I remember T'Bonz very kindly did one out me in TOS Kirk uniform.

I recall I had a hunky John Edwards one as well at some point. I think it would've been in the 2004 US Presidential Election. I also had a few variations of the University of Utah/Utah Utes logos. Even in a sambero (but years before the craze here - they went to the Fiesta Bowl in Jan 2005).

I don't really recall any other avatars, though I'm certain I probs had a few more.

I originally registered in Dec 2001 as Boobies of Borg but that name as y'all can guess got old pretty fast and I got over the one-note-joke of it, and I quietly registered a new account as Evil Robert in Feb 2002. But I was mum about that for years as this was the height of paranoia on the site and Lisa or susannah would ban you at the mere hint of a duplicate name.

I sadly remember doing apx 250 posts in a day as well. Just so I could get to Commadore and top Katie_453's From The Ranks or whatever it was called. Lol. I still finished second to Huntingdon that week I think. I normally wasn't that spammy. That was a rare day for me. Helps I didn't have a job then either :o There was a lot of posts that day in forums I never would go in (Fan Art/Fan Fic et cetera) saying 'good work' or variations there of.

I still think I was one of the fastest newbie-to- mod in trekbbs history (sometime like 5 months or so from joining). I think it was 'cause I was a big Janewayite and Lisa was too! Lol

^ Well not counting anyone, like Jammer, who was a mod from Day One. Yeah. ;)

The heck with it. I'm going with an avatar from 2019. An avatar from an hour ago, in fact. Dress Rehearsal for an Al Capone-themed 1920s play.

^ Ha ha, I still have your old av, E.R.
I got good at making faces, but was never good at the bodies, alas.

Starbys was quite talented. My first av was from her. We weren't allowed them then and so I stuck my little av at the bottom, not in the sig though.

It's how I was jettisoned out of obscurity around here. Thanks Starbys!

...I think...

I was an admin within a few months along with Dev something or other after a big reshuffle of ownership at the top caused two previous admins/owners to get removed.

Those were some crazy days back when dial up was still the norm. :p

One of my most powerful memories of this place is when on 9-11, people from the BBS all over the world went to our IRC chat room. Everyone was trying to get news, especially those outside of N. America. It was such a coming together, all factions stopped fighting each other for a bit.

And we were all so shocked.
