2018 Releases

Pretty much every other franchise that releases e-book exclusives does print them eventually. Some like the SCE books, and the Throne of Glass fantasy series, will release them in their own collections, while others, like the NJO-Legacy era Star Wars novels, and Kate Daniels series, will release them as extras at the end of paperbacks.

 

Also, think of how many people are missing out because it's not in a physical bookstore or department store where people can actually see it.

Even in the 24th century Captain Picard took a stack of physical books with him on vacation!

 

At this point, there are very few books in department stores, and very few bookstores, so I doubt they're missing out on that much business. As long as they're available on places like Amazon.com they can find an audience. E-book exclusives must do pretty well since dozens of series do them, and Trek specifically has gone back to releasing them on a fairly regular basis.

 

Where you are in your part of America, not across the globe though. I can think of several bookshops here in Dublin that I can buy Trek books from, of course, this doesn't mean that it is the same globally.

 

You're lucky then. We went from two standalone stores in the main shopping area near where I live and one in our local shopping mall, to just one of the standalone stores, and last time I was there it had barely one shelf of Trek books.

 

Getting access to Star Trek novels is surprisingly difficult in Groningen (the Netherlands). THe main bookstore here refuses to order them for me since 'i am a student whom wont pick them up ever', and thus I need to order online or I go to a specialty store for non-dutch literature.

The good thing is I can get both German and English versions of the books from that specialty store. Dang, I even need to order my comics at specific stores since there's no Star Trek to be found!

 

Luck has nothing to do with it. I live in a reasonably large city.

 

I live towards the edges of the Phoenix area, so I'm in a pretty big urban area too.

 

Amazon has the second book of the Prometheus trilogy up for preorde. It's called The Root of All Rage and is due out May 29, 2018

 

Not much better here in Utrecht, no stores left that offer them on the shelves for a few years now. (The "we don't order for students" rule sounds pretty ridiculous in a university city by the way...) Until this month, I could always reliably order Trek books through Bol, but as Mage has already reported, they're only offering them through a 3d party this month, a troubling development. Might be faster to take a trip to Amsterdam or The Hague, that still have specialized stores for English books.

 

Yeah, I finally got my copy of Patterns of Interference in, but I think that was indeed handled by Bol through that 3rd party after my complaints about my pre-order. Luckily, I also pre-ordered Original Sin, so let's hope that goes ok.

Oddly enough, Desperate Hours is still available as a pre-order, while the pre-order for Original Sin is now a Not Available.....

 

Well we may have our second 2018 book revealed. Releasing February 27, 2018, at least according to Amazon will be......

This lack of news about 2018 books is becoming worrisome...but I guess since none of the current writers have said (in this thread) that they aren't working on new Trek books, is a positive sign. Hopefully they just aren't able to talk about it yet until all contracts between Pocket and CBS (or whomever) are signed.

 

Well I'm looking at Amazon USA for A of I and see it still has Dec. 19, 17 as the publishing date (update, oh wait, that's just for the Kindle version - looks like the paperback has indeed been changed to Feb. 27), but then I checked the A of I Pocket Books page and it says there "February 2018", sigh.

 

I am not too worried since it was confirmed that the novels are now allowed to use/reference material from the new movies and aquiring those rights would be pretty pointless if all new novels will be Discovery novels.

 

Not really. The book already was the January 2018 release.

 

On the bright side I've got more time for my planned re-read of all of Beyer's Voyager relaunch novels leading up to Architects of Infinity.

 

I was the person who asked the panel at STLV about 2018 Star Trek novels, and I got the opportunity to talk to Ed Schlesinger in the vendors room a bit later about it too. Both he and Jon Van Citters were adamant that there was nothing to worry about in regards to Star Trek books, and that exciting things were on the horizon (such as the Kelvin Timeline being in play, though exactly what that meant - Kelvin novels, Kelvin elements in Prime novels - was still being worked out.)

I think we'll see something soon.
