When is the next big Trek event, or even with a big Trek presence? I'm wondering if maybe they've been waiting to make an announcement at one of the cons or something.

Which is a bit odd as BD has been owned by Amazon since 2011.
Absolutely. It gets odder when I add that I've found bargain prices for BD items in Amazon Marketplace that beat the BD website price and are sold by BD.

Now the reality is probably far more mundane - that BD can't track the hundreds of thousands of items they have on sale in multiple places, but it does look strange at times.

Shore Leave has usually been a traditional venue for Trek novel news, and that's in the summer. Other than that, I'm not really sure what else they could announce such a thing. Maybe at whatever that convention was last year where they mentioned they were pursuing rights to the Kelvin Timeline?

If they were gonna go for that, maybe one of the Destination Star Trek conventions?

No, the answer is that nothing can be said for certain. There's a range of possibilities, but we won't know until we know. If the license were to get renewed soon, it might be possible to expedite the process enough to get something new out by the end of the year, but that's strictly hypothetical. And it wouldn't be easy, so there's no guarantee that it would be done. There is no simple yes/no answer to anything at this point.

A question (this I guess could go for any author). Once the contract is signed and books are commissioned again, do you have ideas for stories you'd like to write? I know some time it was noted sometimes the writers bring ideas to the publisher, other times vice versa. I'm sure how much time each of you have varies depending on other responsibilities, but do you have some things in mind that you're ready to jump on once you get the go ahead.

I also wonder if the publisher/editors have given any hints to anyone as to where they want to take the various storylines next. The only clues I can gather is where the stories are at this point, and the only future hint I see is them indicating they are negotiating for writes to use Abramsverse elements in future books (indicating to me 2 things--one they'd like to resurrect the idea of doing novels taking place in the Kelvin timeline, and the 2nd being that we are getting very close to the destruction of Romulus in the prime timeline--a rather significant event I would think--I wonder what lucky writer will get that story ;)

I must possess this.

Michael Burnham and Discovery are simply something I have no interest in. I've tried the show, tried the first novel... just nothing about it I feel I need to spend any more money on.
The books don't focus on her though.

The Picard one is very minor, I don't think it even mentions her by name

I think all writers have a variety of ideas for potential future projects. I'd expect that my next Trek book would probably be Rise of the Federation Book 6, and I do have ideas for where to take the story next. But until Trek starts moving again, my focus is on my original writing.

For a while it was, but they haven't done as much since Marco left.

Those or Vegas were my first thought, but I wasn't sure which one was first.

That'll make Reanok very happy. Me too for that matter. I've enjoyed the Enterprise relaunch.

I guess my only complaint is it seemed S&S shortchanged the Romulan War story. I had initially heard it was going to be up to 4 books. The first book was great then the 2nd Romulan War book covered such a large period of time a lot got left out.

I always wished Pocketbooks had done something like 'Tales of the Romulan War' (like the previous Dominion War anthology) to flesh out and fill in some of the gaps.

It was going to be a trilogy, but the license came up for renewal and it was decided to wrap things up before then just in case, so it became a duology.

One thing about this hiatus is I'm getting caught up with old reading. For instance I just started JM Dillard's 'Recovery.' I read the other 3 Lost Era novels years ago. I didn't even realize there was a 4th Lost Year novel until I dusted Recovery off my shelf and read the jacket. Don't know how on Earth I missed it (after al it says it's the final Lost Year novel right on the cover), and here I've had it on my shelf for years.

In my defense though, it came out when I was in college and didn't get much reading done. I probably put it in my to read pile and forgot about it until I got to it last week.

Ah, makes sense. I heard it was a publisher decision, but that was all. I kind of feel bad for Michael Martin though. Being told suddenly, yeah, what you had 2 more books to do now is just going to be one now. Have fun cramming all that in (plus if he only got paid for 1 book instead of two would stink).

Still, would love to see Pocketbooks someday commission something to fill in some of the gaps--I like an anthology only because they can cover multiple stories at the same time and fill them in to make sure they're still consistent with story laid out by Michael Martin.

Me too, it's got me looking to fill the gaps in my collection again, and finally found a Worlds of DS9 Trill/Bajor for a really good price!!

Bajor is possibly my favourite of that series - its such a gorgeous piece of reflective writing (whoever wrote it, mystery person they are....).
