2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia

After my afternoon of drinking & watching England, then snoozing inbetween phases of watching Cro/Rus, i'll give my thoughts ;)

England did what we have been crying out for and controlled a game for 90 minutes and kept a bloody clean sheet and the nation normally at the end of punchlines are in the WORLD CUP SEMI FINAL for only the 3rd time in our history. Sweden had 3 chances and Pickford was immense and the rest of the game was England dictating everything and once again our aerial threat is second to none at this World Cup.

I was hoping Russia would win, who have over achieved but they did look gassed out come the shootout. I won't lie Croatia scare the hell out of me because of Modric, Rakitić, Perišić & Mandžukić. I was slightly confident ahead of Colombia and more so ahead of Sweden but this is a clear 50/50 game.

Whatever happens we are secured two more games and the lads are heroes but it's so close just like in 96, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!

LET FOOTBALL COME HOME.

Annoying that England won. Hopefully they are knocked out in the semi's. Imagine how unbearable people will be if not.

Opposed to any nation that wins the World Cup? - well after you qualify anyway:whistle:

Must be sad to be sad :p

My buzz is unkillable. :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

I wonder if Klopp has realised he may of wasted time & money bringing in two new holding midfielders when Henderson looks like he could play it for years to come. He's slowly morphing into a Michael Carrick player at just the right moment for England.

This. For mine, harassing the referee / officials is an even bigger blight on the sport than simulation. It's just incredible that entire teams can mob the officials and face no sanction whatsoever, but God forbid a player takes off his / her shirt to celebrate a goal. The utter stupidity of that should surely be obvious even to FIFA - or so one would think.
I wish soccer referees were more like rugby referees.

I support all the home nations unless there playing England but Scotland get the least support recently I will admit.

Belgium and Croatia are teams capable of upsetting their opponents. We could see one of them being crowned as champions.

At this stage of things I'd really like to see a Belgium - Croatia final. Of course, now I've said that it probably won't happen, but anyway.

The first game was a bit of a non-event, really. England did no more than they had to - they really have had a soft run so far. I imagine some (I emphasise some) English people would be thoroughly insufferable if they did win the whole thing, but every country has those sorts of "fans". Having said that, the whole "it's coming home" thing is getting pathetic. England's claims to have invented the sport aside, why the World Cup should be at "home" in England is a mystery. It'd be more at "home" in any of the countries that have won it more than once. :p

The second game was more like it. Russia have had a great run and were probably unfortunate in the end. Hopefully Croatia have enough left for two more games.

You know, I support all of the 'home nations' in competitions unless it's against us.

You might want to try it...

I hope England win, we need some optimism and happiness here because we can b downright grumpy

Even if It’s Coming Home everywhere is irritating. I mean how many people know what it means? Is England home?!

I'm already looking forward to Euro 2020 because the team & system with some of the Youth prospects coming through at the moment. England right now are largely dominating all aspects of Youth Football and several of those players could be ready for Euro 2020 who would give this team more from open play IMO.

Dele Alli, Loftus Cheek, Trent Alexander-Arnold & Rashford have already broken through and all are under 23 still.

Future of ENG?
Trent Alexander-Arnold
Ryan Sessegnon (Left Wing back role could be perfect for him)
Ben Chilwell (Left back who has Trippier's ability with crossing)
Mason Holgate
Joe Gomez
Nathaniel Chalobah
Phil Foden
Mason Mount
Jadon Sancho (Perfect for the Sterling role)
Dominic Solanke

The point of playing these games is to win them. Put the ball in the net more than the other guy. If you do that, and you win, so what? And England can only play who's in front of them. It's not their fault that they were drawn in an easy group. Plus, Sweden did well in the tournament and has historically been a thorn in England's side. Everyone expected a tougher game than it turned out to be.

And while I realize the rest of what you wrote is tongue in cheek, the reason the South and Central American teams aren't in the tournament anymore is because they're shit lately. Brazil likes to stomp around and act like they're the best team in the history of ever, but the fact is they haven't had a good team since 2002. THAT was a proper team. They were good in every area, tough to beat and scary to play against. This Brazil? A bunch of pansies. And Neymar is a disgraceful, overrated clown. Don't get me started on Argentina, either. That's a goddamned circus, between the unrelenting (and unfair) pressure on Messi and Maradona bringing attention to himself every chance he gets. Uruguay was the only decent team from all of Latin America this year, but without Cavani…….what are they? Besides, they haven't won the WC since penicillin was a novel discovery.

Personally....fewer Latin American teams, fewer fish flopping around on the floor. Good riddance if you ask me. Aside from Messi and Cavani, none of them are anything to write home about, and haven't been since that stacked Brazil team of 2002. If they were any good, they'd still be in contention. And as for Spain and Germany? Well it's their own fault they crashed out.

England fans are positive for the first time in a long time....despite the song, I'd wager that unless they beat Croatia, no one REALLY believes they can actually win it.....yet. Get to the final and it's another story. But let them be positive for once.

From the final four teams France is the strongest, with Belgium a close second (on a good day, anyway). They just have class and skills in all parts of the team and a good bench.
