2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia

I have no beer at all at home. I like alcopos, but they are bad for your health because they are too sweet. I prefer red wine at the moment...

Even Panama is better than the Germans at the moment.

Well Colombia and then Sweden/Switzerland stand in the way of ENG reaching their 3rd WC Semi Final.

Tuesday is going to be very interesting but I hope our A Team proves too much for them to handle especially with Rodríguez seemingly injured. The Belgium game should show Southgate who should be left on the bench to rot for the rest of the WC.

My bad, mixed up which was group G and which was group H when I was looking at brackets.

Still, I'm not sure tanking is better for them. Sure, Brazil is looming in quarterfinals for Belgium, but now they get Colombia instead of Japan in the first round, and still run into Spain in the semis.

If avoiding Brazil in the quarters really worth facing a much more even matchup in the first round? I dunno. If they tanked, and they lose to Colombia, I will laugh my ass off.

Well England got the easier route now.

Belgium vs Japan but they could meet either Mexico or Brazil in the QF if they continue.

England vs Colombia with a chance of meeting either Sweden and Switzerland in the Quater Finals.

Very weird to see no Germany in the R16. There has always been a German team in the R16 in my living memory.

Is it really easier though? The percentage difference between beating Colombia and beating Japan is probably very similar to the percentage difference between beating Switzerland and beating Brazil. They traded much easier first round for easier quarterfinal. Probably an even swap, percentage wise.

Five thirty eight still has Belgium with slightly higher chance of winning it all than England.

And besides, Colombia is heavily motivated. Playing not to be murdered. British fans may be insane but they're not murdering anyone for making a mistake.

Well, I've seen every traditional 'strong' football country go through deep lows - (my own country currently is in one too). Except for Germany, until now at least. Perhaps they weren't always equally brilliant but they almost always gave a stable performance.

In a way it is reassuring that not even they are exempt from such ebb and flow. Perhaps the Germans are human after all :).

And I'm sure next time they will be back, as strong as ever.

So:

France v Argentina - heart says Argentina (Messi is the best footballer I've seen and I'd like to see him lift the trophy). Head says France.

Uruguay v Portugal - eh. Who is more unlikeable - Narcisso or Suarez? Might be the only time I'll go for Uruguay to win a game.

Spain v Russia - of the big guns, Spain has probably been the most impressive (not that that's saying much). I'd like to see them win.

Croatia v Denmark - Croatia have looked the better side; should do it.

Brazil v Mexico - probably Brazil. Hopefully Neymar will decide to play some football rather than show off and flop about.

Belgium v Japan - surely Belgium. After Japan's antics against Poland it's...difficult to want them to progress.

Switzerland v Sweden - eh. Maybe Switzerland.

Columbia v England - hmmm. Could be a pretty good game. Might sit on the fence for this one. :p :D

I predict England reaching the semis. Any further than that i don't know. The Gods of Football have usually favoured the Germans for decades. Maybe it is England's turn.
