Heyward, I think, is just a victim of bad luck. His BABIP is something like .260, which is hilariously low for someone with his talent. Baseball being baseball, it should even out sooner rather than later.

He has definitely been the victim of bad luck. He's hit a lot of balls really hard, just right at someone. His defense and arm have made up for it though.

Arrieta is 2 quality starts behind the record of 26 straight held by Bob Gibson.

I might agree if it was the Philles or the Marlins (a perpetual AAAA team).

Cincy isn't good right now, but they have some decent hitters. They're a .500 team.
They are likely going to lose 100 games, this is coming from a Reds fan.

Hard to tell this early. Their pitching is really bad at the moment, starters & bullpen. The Cubs have been teeing off on everyone so far, 46-7 in five games.

What happened to Brandon Phillips? He doesn't seem to have any range and isn't diving after anything hit near him. He used to get to just about anything.

Everybody wins 54 :D

Age, Reds tried to move him to the Nats for a bag of cheese, he turned it down.

It sure didn't seem that long ago when Darwin Barney was vying with Phillips for the Gold glove at 2nd base (2012), then Phillips won it again in 2013.

Phillips has also put on a not-inconsiderable amount of weight over the past few years. Just eyeballing it, he looks to be about 20 - 25 pounds heavier than he was during his glory days a few years ago. At that age -- he's turning 35 in June -- that kind of difference can have a huge effect upon one's mobility.

I've seen every Cubs game vs the Reds, he's not even trying anymore. He hasn't dived for one grounder. Maybe if they painted the ball to look like a cheeseburger?

Phillips also knows he's on a team going nowhere, can't understand why he torpedoed the deal to Washington.

The last 3 games the Nationals starters have thrown 121, 114 & 116 pitches.

Never change Dusty.

Barney was actually the emergency backup catcher for the Jays a few nights ago, backing up Josh Thole when Russell Martin's neck spasms kept him out of the lineup.

Javier Baez was the emergency backup catcher for the Cubs last night when Montero's stiff back scratched him from the lineup.

Would've been interesting to see if the game wasn't so close.
