2016 MLB Regular Season - It's an Even Year...

The Cubs are going to keep La Stella on the inactive list and take a flyer on Carl Crawford, because one lefty bat hitting under .200 this year isn't enough and he also has Prior Maddon Experience so that means he will instantly be fixed once signed, this is science and magic at work.

Theo. Jed. I'm begging you. Stop stealing from Maddon's stash, this is not wise.

Edit: Holy shit, Ken Rosenthal pulls no punches. God, that "retirement tour" was beyond obnoxious.

Edit 2: Pedro Strop landed awkwardly on his leg while trying to field an infield single, collapsed, and could not walk off the field under his own power, which probably means ligament tear(s). MRI scheduled for tomorrow morning, but, fuck.

Yeah, not good if he's injured. A 2.89 for a reliever is pretty damn good, even with the rough stretch he had a while back.

Hoping for the best, but Edwards is definitely ready to be a setup guy along with Rondon, assuming Rondon doesn't have a serious triceps problem.

Strop was walking around before they helped him off the field. It didn't look too bad at that point.

Alex Rodriguez asked to play 3B tomorrow, and Girardi refused.

Man, I am beyond tired of the way they're treating one of the greatest players of all time. At this point, he should just say, "Fuck it, I changed my mind about retiring. Eat it, Steinbrenner and Levine."

Eat what? They are still paying him regardless

The yankees would say go for it, any team picking him up would basically be saying to their fans "we're a giant joke, come see a player who used to be good"

So the Twins I guess.

The "eat it" part would be continuing to burn a roster spot for a useless player, I'd imagine.

Although Timby's got this one wrong, nothing he can do. He's NOT retiring, he's being released. He can stop pretending to be onboard with it, but they cut him. He still gets full salary, but he's off the roster. Not sure what his recourse there is? Refuse to leave and get taken out by security?

Girardi is being a dick with ARod for sure, though. Refusing to let him play 3B one more time because, per the press conference "he's not in the business of retirement tours, trying to win games". Um, forget about Jeter? And he played Jeter almost every game at SS and batted him high in the order last year, not exactly his best lineup if he was trying to win games. It's ok to just say you don't like ARod, things like this make him look petty and childish.

Jeter? ... You can't put these two in the same situation. You know, maybe A-Rod isn't such a great guy after all. Maybe Girardi is sick of this guy and is sticking it to him because he's had to deal with this prick for too long.

It's not a year-long tour, but yes, kinda same situation. How Jeter played shortstop in 1999 had no relevance to the corpse they rolled out in 2014. When Jeter played SS and batted 2nd, Girardi wasn't fielding his best defense or lineup. Fact, not opinion. Guy batting .256 with 4 HRs and a .304 OBP isn't cutting it, especially when combined with status-like defense. And definitely not batting in the 2-hole.

For him to then deny ARod one last chance at 3B because suddenly that's super important is just kind of a petty move. Especially a couple days after the Yankees traded any veteran with any worth and punted for the year. All of the sudden, it's important Girardi go all out to win every day? Come on, just doesn't like the guy and is sticking it to him.

I mean, personally I'm far from ARod's biggest fan (as a Sox fan, should be obvious), but Girardi just comes off shitty in this circumstance. What's the harm in letting him play a couple innings before they cut him? It was implied that the Yankees had kinda agreed to that, and now Joe's just sticking it to a guy he doesn't like.

But his comments about not being in the business of farewell tours was laughable at best seeing as how he just finished wrapping a year-long version of one up, to the detriment of his team.

Zack Wheeler is seeing Dr. Andrews again, so you can probably stick a fork in him.

What the fuck is wrong with the Mets' medical staff?

Mookie Betts is 4-4 with three home runs and 8 RBI in Boston's still-in-progress drubbing of Arizona, currently 16-1 after five innings. David Ortiz has never hit three home runs in a single game in his entire career, and this is the second time this season that Betts has done it. Amazing. I'm so glad they moved him off the leadoff spot and into the three-hole so he can bat with people on base more often.

Giancarlo Stanton is done for the year. The Marlins are having internal discussions about signing Alex Rodriguez.

It's a win for the Marlins, Stanton is out and ARod is practically free. I think this is a no brainer. He probably won't give you much, however he may hit a few HR and get a half dozen RBI's. He'll get his 700 with the club and you can celebrate that in the Yankees face. Hell, their stadium is practically Yankee Stadium south, they will love it.
