Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

He's clawed his way back to a world-class OPS+ of ... 80. Truly a star.

He's had a hot September. Why? Because his BABIP has taken a dead cat bounce. That's what the deal is and always has been with Castro: When he's getting obscenely lucky and his BABIP is meteoric, he's a league-average hitter. When his BABIP is in the realm of mortal men, he's one of the worst everyday players in baseball.

What's meteoric? League average is .300, right? If anything his 2015 is normalizing after a shitty first half.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Exactly my point. When his BABIP is league-average, he's terrible. His BABIP in September has been north of .350.

It was around league average last year--slightly over. He was an All-Star. (then got hurt)

BABIP also isn't wholly luck. "Luck" is a factor in it - there are others.

.337 to a league average of .300 is a pretty big difference.

Edit: Phillies removed the interim tag from Pete Mackanin and extended his deal through next year. I guess the players or MacPhail really like him or something, because his field management has been ... not good.

The Marlins interviewed Manny Acta today and are likely going to interview Dusty Baker tomorrow or Thursday.

Preemptive RIP to Jose Fernandez's elbow.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Is there any way we can get Dusty back in the NL Central? Please?

Well, the Brewers already said they'll keep Craig Counsell, but maybe he'll be caught railing a chihuahua on the outfield slide or something and Stearns would have to fire him...

I can't wait until Oakland gets to experience either Lawrie turning into a whining child or getting injured, both of which occur at least twice a season.

Oh, and thanks for Donaldson.

A post from April but still, thank you Oakland, thank you Billy Beane, thank you baseball Gods.

R.I.P. Yogi, one of the greats and the only man as quotable as Casey Stengel.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Jake Arrieta said he didn't feel sharp and that he was a little bit off Tuesday night. The NL Cy Young Award candidate still tossed a three-hitter
If that's "off", I'll take "off" anytime.

By beating Milwaukee, Arrieta became the first Chicago pitcher since Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins in 1971 to win at least 20 games and strike out at least 200 in a season.
He also lowered his ERA to 1.88, giving him a chance to become the Cubs' first qualifying starter with a sub-2.00 ERA since Grover Cleveland Alexander had a 1.91 mark in 1920.
A couple of great names to be compared to.

Kris Bryant hit his 26th HR of the year, surpassing Billy Williams' 25 in his rookie year. another hell of a guy to be compared to.

Confirmed yesterday: Hudson and Zito are going to be starting the game on Saturday and Hudson, Zito and Mulder will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch on Sunday.

Baseball owns.

Yogi Berra, is there a baseball player who did more with less? I guess it's over.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

So it seems the Pirates and Cardinals have clinched playoff spots. Anyone else done it yet?

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

The Pirates clinched on the same day three years in a row.

It's nice to see the Mets win and reduce the magic number, I think they just needed to get away from MLB, he was causing some bad voodoo. :)

One a side note, about the MVP. I completely believe that Bryce Harper is the MVP for the national league. Hands down. People have talked about Cespedes as MVP (mostly Mets fans) and as nice as that is, just no. Cespedes is having a fantastic year and its nice to have a quality player just to be mentioned as a possible MVP. Cespedes has been great for the Mets. Outside of Gary Carter, he maybe the best trade deadline deal the Mets have ever made.

 I didn't jinx 'em the first night I was here! :p

Good win for the Yankees tonight, it helps that the Jays had a day off at the same time. And a very nice ceremony for Yogi.
