2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (LOL NO)

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Sign and trade really isn't much of a thing in baseball. Why would a pitcher agree to that, unless you agree to pay him more than the going rate? and why would you do that AND give up prospects when you can just pay him LESS cash in the offseason than the overpay you'd have to give him to forgo FA?

Makes more sense in the NBA where you're kinda limited on pay, so getting max contract either way.

Don't know why the Red Sox were rumored to be in on Cueto, but glad he went elsewhere first, for exactly the reasons I said. Don't want to give up a prospect haul AND overpay him when I can just regular pay him later if I want him. You get a small exclusive window at end of the season, but that close, they're going to test the waters anyway...

It's more like, if Price has a yen to be a Cub at some point anyway, he'd be willing to sign an extension before or after a trade.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

As long as you pay him more than market rate, yes. Unless he's DYING to be a Cubbie, he's not signing squat until FA sets the market for him. So if you're going to give up real prospects, do you also want to pay more than market rate? Otherwise, just wait until November and keep the kids.

He's not getting traded and then signing a team friendly deal. Not 2 months from being a Free Agent for the first time in his career, with one chance to cash in big. Enough to set up his great-grandkids for life.

I won't be upset if the Cubs do nothing at this point, unless they get Price in a sign & trade.

Otherwise, they can probably land Price next year and give up nothing but money.

I'm not sure what any pitcher can do for them with the offense being so anemic and unless they can get higher than a one game playoff, it would be a waste of a trade.

As with everything is depends on what you give up.

A sign & trade can't happen in baseball (at least officially) - that's an NBA-type deal.

If/when they bring up Baez (who hasn't struck out in *limited* time back from injury and seems to have changed his footwork) that'll be a shot in the arm.

Broke my heart to see Johnny Cueto traded to the Royals. Spent a long time watching him grow as a pitcher.

Yeah, I feel bad for Reds fans who won't have a chance to watch him pitch every five days anymore.

Victorino to the Angels for...who cares? Frees a roster spot to try Castillo again, and got 1M off the books at least.

Time for Napoli to pack next. Anything that's not in the plan for 2016 needs to go so they can figure out who is worth a spot

^I saw that and had the same reaction. I guess this is Boston's way of admitting they're out of it.

Nice of the Cubs to blow it in the ninth so Bryant could hit a two-run walkoff.

That's why I'm happy about the recent skid; don't have to waste resources pretending anymore.

On the other hand, trading Vic doesn't really mean much. He's off at the end of the year anyway, wasn't doing much, and is blocking kids that we NEED to evaluate better, so we need the roster spot more than anything. Even if they were making a run, Vic wasn't going to make or break it. Same with Napoli, except there's no one he's really blocking.

Suppose you could audition Hanley at 1B and see if he's any worse than at LF? If he doesn't suck there, it would help a whole bunch of things for next season.

On the plus side, the Cubs had a huge inning, which they haven't had in a long time.

But Motte gave up 3 late. 2 bad games in a row for him.

And just as many Yankees fans cheering the man they just spent the last year and a half completely trashing. And would STILL be trashing if he hadn't come back strong. Still another couple years on the contract, pretty sure you'll turn on him again before it's all said and done, because he's not going to make it easy and retire...

The sounds of a disgruntled SAUX fan with nothing better to do than attempt to dig at Yankees fans... how are all those #3 pitchers working for ya? ... how about those thunder bats they bought in the off-season?

:guffaw:

^ Hey, don't look at me. I never had a problem with A-Rod.

I have no problem with that, but for me it's always been a love/hate relationship with him. Now, I can't find myself rooting for or against him.... it's just kind of - blah.

If one more announcer says the words "MVP" when talking about A-Rod I'm going to throw something at the TV.... eeesh... he's a DH for gods sake...

Bull fucking shit. Last year you were saying you never wanted to see him in a Yankees uniform ever again. Now that he's shown he can still hit, magically you're fine with him being on the team.

Hey potty mouth.... yup, I didn't. That's the "hate" part of the love hate thing.

That's not love/hate, that's just being intellectually dishonest, considering some of the tantrums you were throwing about him last year.

They will probably flip Tulo somewhere else, for exactly that reason.

Tulo's contract has a full no-trade clause now as a result of being traded, so he isn't going anywhere he doesn't want to.
