2014 MLB Season: How Many Pitchers Will Die For Our Sins?

I got nothing against the Giants - or the Cardinals - but I was always gonna root for the AL team in this. Since it's the Royals, I have an extra incentive, because we have their AAA team in my city (Omaha Storm Chasers).

And on an unrelated matter: Demolition and reconstruction of the Wrigley Field bleachers has begun. Finally, the Cubs got off their asses and started renovating the place! (No word on whether the bleachers will be finished by next Opening Day although I can only assume they'll try.)

Congrats to the Royals and Giants and their fans.

Should be an interesting World Series.

I for one am interested to see how the Royals respond to a loss.

It's wasn't just the Cub's organization that was slowing the process down.

The article is a bit long, but a nice read.

^ Yeah, those rooftop people haven't been any damn help either. I'm sure they'll sue, but the Rickettses will stomp them like grapes under a wine press. As it should be.

The Cubs were negotiating with the City of Chicago, Cook County and the rooftop owners for the past several years -- any renovations to Wrigley have a lot of legal red tape to get through, because of a contract signed with the rooftop owners back in 2004, and because of Wrigley's historic landmark status. It wasn't a case of the team dragging its ass.

^ As annoying as the rooftop people are, it's as much the team's fault as theirs - for signing that damn contract in the first place. Never should have done that. Cubs should have told the rooftop people to shove it up their ass and just built a spite fence like Connie Mack used to do.

Yes, and that contract was signed by the previous ownership of the team (and in 2004, there were no plans to actively renovate the stadium) -- it's not like the Ricketts family could just tell them all to go pound sand just because they bought the team from the Tribune Company.

One of the things I love about Sports is it's the greatest reality show you will ever see. Who would have thought someone like Tavis Ishikawa would now be named in the same vain as Bobby Thompson in terms of postseason heroics. I'm really happy for the guy and I freaking love this Giants team. They always seem to find ways to win in October and I hope they have a great series against the Royals. Just as a baseball fan though, I would like to see this series go 6 or 7. Just want it to be a close memorable series, which is something we really haven't gotten in a long time.

In some cases, new ownership is an "out" for contracts signed by previous owners. Why wasn't that the case here?

The contract was signed between the team and the rooftop owners, not the Tribune Company and the owners; Chicago Cubs Baseball Club LLC is a persistent legal entity and was merely transferred from the Tribune Company to Chicago Baseball Holdings LLC.

A change in ownership doesn't invalidate those deals, only who's writing and signing the checks. Otherwise, an ownership change could conceivably cause all the players and staff to be free agents upon the transfer and television contracts to be voided, or in other words bedlam.

So, I guess there's a South Korean man who's a big Kansas City Royals fan. In the wake of the Royals making it into the World Series efforts were made via hashtags and other social-media/internet avenues to convince his employers to give the man the PTO he needs in order to see The Royals in Game 1 of the World Series. (Where I suspect he'll be given dugout seats, if not a box.)

WTF is wrong with MLB, waiting until Tuesday to start the World Series.

As soon as the champion of one league moves forward, MLB sets the World Series schedule. It has to allow for the possibility of a seven-game series in the opposite league, but that doesn't preclude the team from the other league from making plans and selling tickets. Between promotions, commercials, ticket sales and the like, you can't just tell everyone, "Oh, by the way, the other LCS ended early, everything gets moved forward by a few days."

I was a fan of his in 2010 and was my wife's favorite, so we were thrilled when he came back to the team this year. I guess that bat we have signed by him just went up in value. ;)

I'll say. He became a Giants Legend when he hit that walk off.

Not a big deal, really. Seems like a trivial thing for the World Series to be moved forward a day because of one football occasion.
