2014 MLB Season: How Many Pitchers Will Die For Our Sins?

Based on what little I've seen of the TV broadcasts this postseason, I have one other thing to say: I do not, under ANY conceivable circumstance, miss Tim McCarver.

Edit: Aaaaaand...Josh Beckett reacts to Dodgers elimination by retiring.

Orioles sign JJ Hardy to an extension, which means the already thin shortshop market is now basically threadbare -- considering the next-best option on the market (that's actually a shortstop) is "take a flier on Stephen Drew."

Why do they make such a big deal about the Royals winning 4 consecutive extra inning post season games? All it means is they aren't good enough to win in 9.

Or it means their opponents aren't good enough to win it in 9.

Or the Royals are good enough to prevent their opponents from winning in nine while also not being good enough to win it in 9.

And, really, I didn't think going into extra innings was a testament to a team's validity. Just that things didn't work out to win in regulation and in baseball there has to be a winner so you keep playing until there is one.

Anyway, Go Royals!

I say the Royals are going for another sweep and will take the World Series, don't think that one will be a sweep either but I'll say they'll do it in 5.

I love the story of the Royals this year, but I'm a little concerned that at this pace they'll end up like the 2007 Rockies who shot through the playoffs so quickly and then had to sit idle for 10 days until the ALCS was resolved.
They were hot for so long, and lost all momentum and got crushed in the World Series.

So why wasn't Bumgarner charged with a balk, AND (on another play) with interference when Wong(?) tried to reach first base?

I didn't know they were in the WS already!

Maybe they should just lose the next 4 games so they don't have to worry about momentum.

I think there's definitely something to the momentum idea. Practice only goes so far and the Orioles celebrated hard when they swept in the divisional round -- there was a lot of energy spent there, and then suddenly they were off for several days in "hurry up and wait" mode. That can play hell with productivity and performance (it's the same way in any other job -- take a long vacation, and your first day back in the office is almost always one of slog, catch-up and getting back into routine).

Unfortunately, the loss of Machado, Weiters and Davis are catching up with them. Regardless of the outcome of the rest of the season, I'm proud at what they have accomplished. :techman:

That being said, please kick the Royals asses.

So why wasn't Bumgarner charged with a balk,
No idea, actually. Even as a Giants fan I thought it was pretty obvious and that it should have been called as such.

AND (on another play) with interference when Wong(?) tried to reach first base?

He had already tagged him on the leg before running into him, so he only "interfered" with him once he was already out.

The Dodgers have lured Andrew Friedman out of Tampa Bay, and he is their new president of baseball operations. Ned Colletti has been kicked upstairs as a "senior adviser" to ownership, Friedman is free to hire a new GM and Mattingly appears safe for the moment.

Friedman with money. We're all fucked.

No rain today, so the Royals take to the diamond where they'll continue their rally against Baltimore!
