2008 Olympics!

It wasn't funny. They were the only real opposition to the Jamaicans. A 4x100m final without the USA isn't the real thing.

Wow, Bolt was amazing! Again!

However, Wallace Spearmon has been disqualified for stepping on the line (and stupid NBC is asking him "What's your emotion?! What are you going to do?!" and he's still in a daze having just found out). Chruandy Martina may also be disqualified for the same reason.

Sad news for Wallace, I wish the journalists would have shown a bit more respect

Yeah you're right, it wasn't exactly burqa. It was more or less skin-tight and the face wasn't covered; but still it looked very odd next to all those women who compete almost naked in the track&field events. ;)

That's what happens when you bring dumb religious politics into a game, I heard some Iranain athlete quit the swimming because he didn't want the possible shame of losing to the Israeli athlete

Hehe, watching the Americans fuck up both 100m relays was funny.
I've always found a visual comical element to that game but dropping the dildo while running is never funny

The U.S. has failed to advance out of the first round of both the men's and women's 400-meter relays at the Olympics, dropping the baton in each race.

First, men's anchor Tyson Gay, part of the American team that won the relay at last year's world championships, did not get the baton from third-leg runner Darvis Patton on Thursday night.

Then, about 25 minutes later, women's anchor Lauryn Williams flubbed her exchange with Torri Edwards — the metal stick dropping to the ground.

Unlike the men, who stopped racing, Williams scrambled back on the wet track to pick up the baton and finish the lap around the track. The United States, of course, was eighth and last in the heat.

Good article by Wetzel on the American basketball player playing for Russia. I don't see any problem with her playing on the basketball team.

Pretty interesting day today, shame Phillips Idowu couldn't get his elusive gold, but some very good jumps in that competition and congrats to him on his silver!
The 400m was good to watch too, and it was nice to see a winner who can say something articulate in his post-race interview.
The 4x100 was an absolute shambles. Not only the woeful attempts by the US teams, but Britain's men's team was hardly much better. They were being very nice 'not blaming Pickering' and all, but lets face it, he ran too early; that and only that gave us the disqualification.
Having said that, our women's team seems quite promising.

BTW what is this I hear about sour grapes coming from certain Aussies because of Team GB's medal counts in these games?

HA! It's about time. After what they did to Andrea Raducan in 2000 taking away her medal for an accidental dose of cold medicine, it finally dawned on them that they'll have zero credibility if they don't DO something about this. The rule is in place to protect these girls. It needs to be enforced. I have no problem with it being enforced; China will continue to push young girls too hard and so will every other country if they think they can get away with it. Hell, Bela blowhard Karolyi would do it if he could get away with it.

I have no problem when Americans are caught doping. Fair is fair. Enforce the rules across the board for everyone. I wish there was a way to punish the Chinese program as opposed to He Kexin herself. It's not like she had the realistic option to say "no."

Wow, did anyone see Jeremy Wariner blow off the NBC reporter midway through talking after tonight's race? I guess they're getting tired of their awful questions.

Yeah but that reporter was stupid. What did he think the response would be, he just sat their with a shocked look on his face, and Bob Costas (I think) had to take over.

BMX

 France just owned the Brit girl in the final. Just totally cut her off to make sure she won.

I was hoping they would show more of the BMX races but I only got to see the first and last races. US got silver in woman's and bronz and silver in men's.

That's not the first time that reporter has asked stupid, insensitive questions after a failure or disappointment. He tried asking questions to Wallace Spearmon moments after finding out that he was disqualified from winning the gold after accidentally stepping on the line. Spearmon was a complete daze and the reporter kept battering him with questions.

Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers did it, too! They won the gold! And now the US has become the first country to win the gold in both the Men's and Women's Beach Volleyball in the same year! :D

Wow! Talk about domination in a set! Rogers/Dalhausser absolutely ran away with the 3rd set after 2 very close opening sets. Dalhausser is an absolute beast with his blocks when he is on. My god, I think there was 6-7 straight points off of his blocks. This all makes the USA the first country to win both Men and Women's gold in the same olympics.

edit: Damn you EMH from beating me to the interesting trivia fact!

Late to the party, but the US softball team's loss to Japan throws the Olympic's justification for ditching the sport out the window: other teams can in fact win the gold.

IOC: No proof Chinese gymnasts cheated

And the Olympic Committee officially pussies out as they accept more government issued ID as proof of He Kexin's age. :vulcan: The Xinhua News Agency, the Chengdou Sports Bureau, the pages Mike Walker pulled up from the cache with a Chinese search engine from another Chinese sports agency's website that all claimed He Kexin was born January 1, 1994 (and that all conveniently disappeared and became inaccessible as soon as a question was raised) were all wrong. It's just a coincidence they all disappeared right before the olympics, as well as pages with info on the other gymnasts. The new government ID and residency cards are right. He Kexin is 16. Deng Lin Lin, with her 4'5" frame, missing tooth, and 68 pound body is 16. They're taking China's word for it. :wtf:

Gimme a P...gimme a U....gimme an S....S....Y.....what does that spell???

Raise the age limit to 18 or require a dental exam. .

Aren't He Kexin and Deng Lin Lin the cutest little girls?

I can't help but think that had that happened four years ago in Athens, softball wouldn't be getting booted out in 2012. Hopefully, they'll bring it back in 2016.

Boy, the US track guys and gals are really struggling this Olympics. They were touted as the best group since the '68 games, but nothing's gone right for them.
