As noted, the hairstyles in the first two seasons of TNG are very '80s -- big hair ruled! -- but around season three, it achieved a less dated look. One thing I never liked about the bridge was the tactical station -- all that wasted space and it was the only station where you had to stand. I always thought tactical should be where ops is, that ops should have been where Troi was, and Riker should have had a "master console" next to his station, the way they eventually added that to the first officer's station on the Enteprise-E. -- RR

random factoid......I was born the day before TNG premiered.

as for the first few TNG seasons....they are more outdated than TOS. nothing wrong with that though. its a fine tv show, even in it's early years.
The Early TNG episodes do loke dated, but it has been 2o years since TNG first premiered. TNG is still very cool for me.
I agree with both of those statements. :bolian: TNG does look dated (especially the first couple of seasons). Even more than all the other series. But I can enjoy it nonetheless.

I don't think it can be argued that early-TNG looks more dated than TOS. It's glaringly obvious that TOS was made in the '60s and is a product of its time. That's all fine and dandy when taken in context, but there is no way it looks more modern than TNG.

Just got done watching "The Naked Now" on Sci-Fi's TNG fan favorites. Boy, is that dated. The whole thing has a Space: 1999 look. The special effects look like an after school special. The dialogue, the costumes, everything... really bad.

Now I'm watching "The Big Goodbye". Reminds me why I always hated holodeck centered episodes. It drives me crazy that a hologram kisses Picard and then when he leaves the holodeck the lipstick is still on his face.

^ Well, they do say that the holodeck also replicates some things.

BTW, cool avatar. :bolian:

Why do I never see you around the avatar contests?

Ok so yes, that was the best thread title I could come up with...

Back around 1987 when ST: TNG came out (and I was about 10 years old), I remember that I didn't like watching the original Star Trek because everything about it felt so outdated and old, like the bridge design, unforms, the musical score, hairstyles, etc. that were from the 60's). It's funny because now that it's been about 20 years since ST: TNG came out, The Enterprise-D still seems pretty cool in terms of design and the uniforms still seem kinda cool (except for the man-skirt... *shudders*). Anyone else feel the same way as me?

They should have kept the manskirts

As disturbing as they were they opened your mind a bit...is blue really blue? why do men wear the trousers?

Who am I? and what am I doing here?

Riker & Troi did have master consoles, to the side of their chairs. they swivelled them around
manually to ccess them. See BoBW 1 for an example.

Yeah, but nothing can leave the holodeck. Without the emitters holodeck matter cannot exist.

As for the contests, I'm never aware of them. I don't browse much.
