20 years ago tonight the Enterprise finale aired. So....what's your opinion two decades on?

Enterprise had competition for ending leaving you feeling miffed, pretty much within a few years. How about Lost? Even Battlestar Galactica had its share of disappointed viewers, who'd jumped ship from other shows they didn't feel were fresh any more, only to not really think much of where the story ended up. Something to be said for TV shows from the 60's, 70's & 80's that have no ending and no full stop that spoils the memories. Star Trek is different however, as a multi-series franchise where inevitably something will inevitably provide an answer to "Whatever happened to..." as the years go on.

I still don't like "These are the Voyages..." and it just boils down to the 22nd Century adventure not really feeling important enough to be of historic interest 200 years later by Riker & Troi. It just handed ammunition to fans who weren't supportive of prequels in general, not having a big event right at the end to hang the whole series on. In theory it should be day one of the Federation but it's handled so half-heartedly and everything in the episode is more a diversion away from it. There had been several episodes leading up to the finale, which had realised this but obviously pulled their punches, unable to hit the nail on the head because it was assumed that either follow-ups in Season 5, or a time jump to the finale would be the place.

I could not even make it through the first episode of Stranger Things it was that bad but TATV was not only bad when judged by its own content but it was the insultingly disappointing end to something that was good and enjoyed which makes it worse. Bad ending to a good show will always feel worse than a bad ending for a bad show.

FWIW I never had issues with the finale of LOST (which I think a lot of viewers misinterpret, which kind of boggles my mind) or BSG (mostly). Either one is certainly leaps and bounds above TATV, at least to me.

OTOH, I found "Endgame" pretty disappointing but I'd say TATV was worse. DISCO's entire final season contained a lot of disappointment for me, including the finale, but I wouldn't quite say it was as bad as TATV (though it had some ridiculous moments). I thought the finale to LDS was a bit less than what I was hoping for (I really, really wanted to see what would happen next), but much better than TATV.

Oh, and then there was PIC S3...sigh...better than TATV, but overall pretty dire.

Seinfeld's finale is both very underwhelming and was a disappointment back in 1998 and the perfect way to end a series about four raging narcissists who can only focus on the things that will bring themselves joy and gain. It's not an objectively great series finale from the creativity and pushing-the-envelope standpoints, but it's still about the only way those characters could get their comeuppance after nine seasons of being such dysfunctional individuals.

Oh yes. I hated the finale when it was first broadcast, but subsequent viewings have made me realize just how perfect an ending it was. There’s also a fan theory that the plane actually crashed and the characters are actually in Purgatory to atone for their sins, the big giveaway being the name of the judge.
