20 most Cringeworthy Scenes in the New Trek films???

The scene I find the most cringeworthy isn't on that list.

"You didn't love your mommy!"

"Did so!"

"Did not."

"Raaaar!"

:cardie:

Also the bit where they aped Wrath of Khan pretty much line for line.

Apart from that, most of the items on that list are "meh" at worst.

Hi, everybody!

That people are still desperately trying to "prove" the new Trek a failure

Just dropping in to give this canned routine the obligatory side-eye.

At some point certain people are going to have to work out that saying some things sucked about the movies isn't the same thing as trying "prove" the new Trek a "failure," whatever that even means, so "refuting" their opinions thus is a useless endeavour. Hope you get there, King Daniel, I'm rooting for you. ;)

Anyway, the list is better than most of whatculture's awful content but a little hit and miss. A lot of it I agree with, but I've got no idea what he's talking about with the Tyler Perry thing (like what the hell, is the guy not supposed to work in anything else because he's successful with his own films?), Nero's initial hail hardly rises to the level of "cringeworthy," and I don't understand why there are at least three items in the top half of the list that he's obviously struggling to make a case for, especially #10 (shouldn't the more minor annoyances be further down?).

"Checkov's (sic) Super strength"?
There is a scene Kirk is holding a railing and holding Scotty to prevent him from falling, but just as he falls, Chekov comes along and holds onto Kirk who is still (impossibly) holding onto Scotty and we see now they both are being held by Chekov, and then, instead of showing us how he pulls them up to safety, JJ becomes lazy and pulls them both up off-camera.

13. Hi, Christopher, I’m Nero” From Star Trek

This is one of my favorite lines in NuTrek. The sudden dropping of all pretense, the deadpan delivery from Eric Bana. I knew at once that we finally had a bad guy we could take seriously. IMO Nero is the best Trek bad guy since TWOK-Khan (and yes, I had to go there). He didn't monologue, he just acted. It was epic.

Since Nero is a civilian, so he doesn't have any protocol or courtesy to adhere to in how he addresses Pike. The delivery actually reminded me of Bill Murray. I thought it was great, too.

+1 to both of these.

Hi Christopher am nero is one of my favorite lines in films ever from a villain.:)

What's the weather like up there on your high horse?

Long lists of complaints like this are of course an attempt to show that the movie is an artistic failure. And of course this one fails miserably.

STID has its faults, but I'm not nearly as critical of it as I am ST09. I was surprised how much I liked it actually, because I was expecting the worst after reading about it for over a year.

i'm sincerely shocked that they didn't include any of the Spock/Uhura scenes in the list..

and here I thought that the reboot haters were predictable....

I love that line  (and the aspect ratio of the transmission was all wrong which makes it all the more funny for some reason) he's almost friendly and it's like a guy in some chat introducing himself to a stranger. Or asking Pike if he's up for a beer with him. Totally not the guy that had just destroyed the whole fleet and is about to obliterate vulcan and attempt to do the same with earth
But Spock prime said it, Nero is a bit (just a tiny bit) insane and bad guys that are insane and bad don't think of themselves as bad. They can even try to be nice sometimes.

Because never in the history of cinema has a similar scene ever been seen.

That and the underwear scene... they mention Carol but in concept only. It's like the author has never been on these boards!

Yes. I think this is why Nero rules over CumberKhan for me. Nero is a very credible character... a workling Joe who loses his world and more importantly his wife and daughter and just loses his marbles looking for revenge and someone to blame. On the other hand Cumberbatch's delivery feels extremely over-acted to me. 'If my eyes could kill... no really, look into my eyes, theyre going to kill you!' Every... word... is... emphasized....

Wait a second....

To be fair, the way I saw the cameras moving in the scene, I think the gravity of the ship shifted again around that time, and it became an aid to Chekov getting them back to safety.

I gotta say I loved the sounds as the Enterprise was seemingly in her death throes. It sounded like an old wooden sailing ship at sea, creaking and moaning as it pitched and rolled trying to keep in control on heavy seas.

I don't know why anyone would build a bottomless pit atrium in a starship though, where people can fall to their deaths.

"Whoever wrote this episode should die!"

I love the atrium set, though. It gives a lot of scope to the ship in a way that isn't as nonsensical as the bottomless pit that's in the Enterprise-E for some reason at the end of Star Trek: Nemesis.

the way Benedict said 'I'm........Khaa...aaaan' screams 'I know I'm playing an iconic villain and probably a lot of fans will scream at this point because they hoped to see a new dude and they held a tiny hope that the spoilers were fake and I wasn't really playing whiteKhan'

ok maybe not really that , but the super emphasis put on the words in some points was weird for sure.
the rest of the speech was well acted though.

The underwear scene is #7 on the list.

I read "fan service" as her being in the film overall, not the infamous underwear scene.

^ "... take a left and then just straight on through the Chompers." :rommie:

Nailed it! :guffaw:
