2 Questions with Possible Spoilers for Orange Is The New Black

USS Triumphant

Vice Admiral
Admiral
For those of you who have seen Mulgrew on OITNB:

1. Would Red (or a much more Red-like Janeway) have made a better captain for Voyager than the Janeway we got?

2. Disregarding question 1, would Voyager have been better if Janeway's "getting away from it all" holodeck scenario had been *pretending* to be Red from OITNB, instead of the Fair Haven crap? (And can you imagine the rumors once the first member of the rest of the command crew had reason to see what the scenario was? :D )

1. The only thing I wish translated well in Janeway was her secure ownership of herself and ship. Kate was insecure in her Janeway years when you compare how she 'owns' the prison *edit-I was thinking of 1st season, so maybe scratch that. I'd like to see more character flaws but I've read people like a respectable, polished, consistent Captain. I'd like to see her smack Paris on the back of the head during a meeting or say "I'm trying to have a moment. lol". I'd like to see a snide jibe or two :-). I wanted to be uncertain if she would be safe.

I don't have a smooth answer for Q1.
Q2: If she so hates to cook, I see some clash there. I wonder if we should ask Kate. I'm looking for parallels. Mother hen, wants to correct mistakes, hope, survival. Maybe :-)

If Red was Janeway she would have had Neelix put down for his shitty food and talking too much.

If Red was Janeway Admiral Paris would be one of her ex-lovers.

If Red was Janeway 7 of 9 would be Nicky. I'll just let that sink in for a minute.

Premise is a view in women's prison with a lot of lesbian sex. kind of annoying actually. except when it's warranted to understand levels of loneliness or in one episode it was comedic reasons. when the lead character and her ancillary character who she's hot and cold with have zero chemistry, it bugs me.It seems every story has booty call in it.

If Red were Janeway she'd have that look from Living Witness, minus the execution part.
To Chakotay "You and you're whining. Russian's don't play baseball. " hehehe

If Seven were Nicky I'd want her to say to Neelix, "That's a bag of Turkey assholes right there. Shit no one else wants."

I liked Nicky's booty calls. They were hilarious, uncomfortable to watch and occasionally erotic.

I completely agree about the zero chemistry of the other two. Now that's some seriously boring booty.

If Seven were Nicky I'd want her to say to Neelix, "That's a bag of Turkey assholes right there. Shit no one else wants."

:guffaw:

Teacake> I know. Nicky deserves noteable exception, but I hear there's even more in S3. I haven't seen it. Lalalalalala, don tell me until I can get Netflix next month. Yyyeah, that's right, Cakes! I'm moving to the big city. Lol kidding. In town. But there's cable internet. Mmm.

We'd finally get to see a star ship bathroom and seven's having a sexual encounter with someone with a federation tramp stamp, or something.

So Lesbians have co opted the color orange now?

Why do they think they get to have a monopoly on things and try to turn everything they can get their hands on as being gay in some way?

That's extremely disingenuous.

I think your post here is intentionally so. :p Orange is the color of prison jumpsuits. The lesbianism isn't related to the color scheme.

Also, the show isn't ALL about lesbianism. Perhaps you want to go watch the show so you actually know something about the topic at hand, and then come back?

No, i wasn't being disingenuous, but I am very prejudiced against homosexuals. and i really don't' appreciate the liberal attitude that they can not be criticized in any manner what so ever because conservatives do it therefore it must be bigotry and you have to shut up because you have no right to be a bigot sheer utter crapload.

They have a lot of dishonesty about them, such as how they have co-opted the word lifestyle to mean that it means a reference to their orientation.

So if the orange color doesn't represent their plight, because there still is a fair amount of other forms of bigotry and prejudice against, then I am very confused on what they are trying to use the color to symbolize for them.

And your personal attacks against me does not help matters much. Know this, I do know a lot about the shaming techniques and tactics from liberals. So if you want to get along with me please, don't use them against me. I do not appreciate being corrected in any way and will NOT comply, and you will only end up getting me banned from this site because I will fight you any way I can.

It wasn't presented well here. it's so much more rich. The stories make you really think about consequences of our actions. how we can slip and end up in incarceration. Even feel compassion for someone's bad choice. We think Red (mulgrew) wasn't a criminal. Wrong place wrong time. I haven't seen 3rd season to know for sure.

It does have lesbians in it. yes, there is lesbian sex probably for sensationalism, I wager. That's what In was trying to say, is if it's importance to understand someone fine, but don't make it soft porn please.

Orange is the new black is about Prison. not assigning gays another color. You should consider season 2. there's an amazing actress who plays a cunning sociopath who ends the season on a satisfying note. just fast fwd the lady sex, I guess. or skip it all. up to you.

Yeah, I just did some searching and found out it's the title of a series on Netflix.

it's still very confusing about what they mean by the title.

Apparently i am in error with my original assessment of the phrase, for which I apologize.

I didn't make a personal attack on you. Suggesting that you should know something about a topic before posting in a thread about it (ANY topic, not specifically anything to do with lesbianism) is NOT an attack. It is sound advice.

However, since the rest of your post takes the form of a personal attack on ME - in the form of making baseless, false, tasteless, and downright stupid comments and accusations about my LGBTQ friends and family (of which there are many) - then I'll go ahead and expand my comment to suggest that you could do to educate yourself properly on a great many more things than just this topic.

Heck, even though you've been very rude about people I care about, I'd be glad to help educate you if you ask respectful questions. And I'll start by explaining something no one participating in this thread should really have to: In fashion, black is the color that is supposed to go with anything and always be in fashion. When someone says something like, "polka dots are the new black", what they mean is that polka dots are suddenly so popular that everyone is acting like they're on par with classic black. The name of the show is a play on words - that an inmate would tell herself that the color of a prison jumpsuit (orange) is "the new black" as a bit of dark humor to try to make herself feel better about her situation.

When you called me disingenuous that was personal attack on me. I was just expressing a negative opinion on something I find distasteful. And insulting me over it, especially with a poor assumption based on ignorance, is also another personal attack. You are the one who is personally attacking me, I did no such thing;. You just got annoyed and took it personally and started in on me as your kind ALWAYS do, and you think you have the right and the authority to impose yourself on to me and try to correct me.

You have none of either, and I will not comply until you earn what true respect and tolerance is and learn how to treat me with such.

And I don't give a flying fig about respect. Respect is just another word for snobbery elitism to pee on us peons.

However, if you want my respect, you will treat me with it, and not brow beat me over the head with it, is that clear? Respect is earned, and it is not earned by imposing yourself with the intent to correct me. If you treat me with respect, I will treat you with respect. That is the only deal I will give to you, it is up to you to accept it or not, and if you won't, then that tells me all I need to know about you.

But i know you won't because you people are all the same.

Now, you will not accomplish anything by your bs attacks on me. You should just drop the matter. I leave it up to you to continue this crap YOU have started.

Now, from what I've read about the show, the woman has a boyfriend but also likes a female inmate.

That's not lesbianism, that bisexual.

It's a good question. The lead, piper who turned herself in was a pretentious, selfish, and spoiled. She said to a teen inside that she was scared of what she was becoming in prison yet even more scared that's exactly who she is. And with us being a scintilla away from this incarceration ourselves, we're slowly trading away our freedom for Orange? I don't know. Triumphant is probably correct.
