I swear, sometimes I have the feeling that some folks here don't “get” gturner's sense of irony.

Yeah, gturner's harmless. I just don't think he's as funny as he used to be. Need more rabbit stories, or maybe drunken roommate party stories, or retarded-neighbor-kid-digging-up-my-septic-tank-for-$2-a-year stories.

Not much has been happening lately. Back in June I ripped the strawberry plants out of the garden and planted sweet corn.

Meanwhile we had goldfish and two oscars in the pond, a tiger oscar called Obama and a pale albino Oscar called Palin. They disappeared. I asked all my neighbors if they'd seen my fish. They all said snarky things like "What, they just packed a suitcase and left?" I said, "I don't know! That's the point! They've got to be somewhere and the hospital has a bunch of nice fish ponds they might've moved to. I'm going to put posters up around the neighborhood."

A week after than something started shredding and eating ears of corn out of the garden in the middle of the night. I figured the fish thief was after breading, so I warned the neighbors that another big fish raid was potentially in the offing. I know we have racoons, possums, and a cat that like our back yard, so maybe one of them knows something.

Anyway, I'm still investigating.

Birds like Herons have also been known to raid fish ponds. That would not explain the corn, though! THAT sounds like the work of raccoons!

The fact that so many people still think Obama is a Muslim disturbs me. What is even more disturbing is that the number has gone up and not down.

Well, it's lower than the percentage of Americans - including me - who think he's an idiot.

Why would you rip out strawberry plants? They're perennials, you know.

Well, I was researching strawberries online and apparently the yield starts to drop after the second year. Wiki said commercial operations were of two types, those that start from fresh seed each year and those that let the crop grow for two years. Mine were three years old and had just finished their season, so I figured it was as good a time as any to try something new.

Unfortunately my 40 beautiful corn plants produced two ears for the humans and 38 ears for the rascally corn thief.

In other strange neighbor news (which I forgot to relate), my old housemate came by last week with the new episode of Weeds on his iPad, along with his backpack. In the backpack he had a big glass jar full of weed and an SGS (semi-auto .22 caliber clone of an HK MP5) made down the street from the HK factory in Germany. He'd modified it with a folding buttstock (felony) and a vertical foregrip (felony) and was working on converting the trigger group to full auto (felony). I said, "Dude, if you get pulled over the cop's going to be so happy he'll wet himself."

Even if he were a Muslim... So what?

He should be proud of it. Come out and tell people, "I'm here, I'm Muslim, get used to it!"

Well, the Democrats are not going to lose them, since both buildings are huge landmarks in DC and very hard to misplace. But the leadership could likely change. Some Democrats think it's actually more likely that the Republicans will take Senate than the House, even though it looks like the House will see a 40 to 80 seat turnover.

This is the first time in my lifetime I can remember any president supporting any one religion.

At this point I would bring up countless pictures of every President attending the White House Christmas Tree ceremony and utterly destroy this idiotically moronic statement...but that would be in bad taste.

Christmas trees are secular, if not downright pagan.

Pagan would be the opposite of secular.

The whole question is moot anyway. So what if he is Muslim? Does that somehow disqualify him from being president?

Not legally, but it's a motivator to get the Right Wing troops out for the next election.

I don't really think he is anything in particular as far as religion goes. But I think that there is some basis to believe he is a Muslim. He was born to a Muslim father and by some definitions that means he was a Muslim at birth, and he did go to a Muslim school, while living in a Muslim nation. And I think he said something about the Sunrise call to Muslim prayer was one of the most beautiful sounds in the world.

He was born to a Muslim father and by some definitions that means he was a Muslim at birth, and he did go to a Muslim school, while living in a Muslim nation. I think that's the point I made upthread with the article I linked. There's a lot of confusion about what he actually believes. If he would just unequivocally state what he believes, he could crush this crap in it's tracks.
