Hmm, I just watched the Confidential, and it sounds like Moffat liked Matt's hair as it is. So I guess we're stuck with it.

Oh well, it's not really any more ridiculous than Baker's hair. Or Troughton's. lol

They should think of a new hairdo for him, though. His current one looks kind of silly.

Given that Moffat actually complements his hair in the show I don't think it's going anywhere.

There is the slim possibility that Matt changed his hair for the audition.

I was very unsure about all this at first but after watching the extended interview and getting over the shock of it I think it should work out fine. He seems to have a real appreciation of the role, I'm looking forward to seeing what he comes up with. Only 14 months (or so) to go!!!

All I can say after a day of anticipation and no small amount of dread, I came away from the Matt Smith interview in a much better mood than before Confidential started- the guy, although young, gives off a good vibe, and his odd look grows on you; he actually reminds me of that actor Rio Fanning, who played Harker in Horror of Fang Rock.

I was hoping for more of an ethnic doctor, but I like the look of this fella. He has that Doctor-look about him.

First and foremost, I am of mixed heritage (white and Filipino). I apology if my hasty response offended anyone.

Seriously, what I meant is that I was hoping for someone of a different ethnicity. I was not clear and I'm sorry.

Just finished watching 'The Eleventh Doctor'. A bit shocked on first view. ("OMG, they've cast Edward Scissorhands!") but that was mostly just an unfortunate camera angle and tragic hair. He actually came off as rather normal in the video clips. And once he started talking and working with his hands I started to see it. I'm sure once they settle on a costume and hair, we'll be able to judge more fairly.

A little disapointed by his age, but in general, I'm fairly pleased with the choice.

Rupert Graves (God On Trial, Midnight Man) plays Inspector Lestrade.
The drama is co-created by the amazing partnership of Steven Moffat (Doctor Who, Coupling) and Mark Gatiss (The League Of Gentlemen, Doctor Who, Crooked House) and produced by Sue Vertue (Coupling, The Cup).
The 1 x 60-minute episode, written by Moffat, will shoot in January 2009 and will be directed by Coky Giedroyc (Virgin Queen, Blackpool, Oliver Twist).

So the winner is Matt Smith. Hmm what is up with all of these Smiths on this show?

Though first time i seen his picture, i though, hey its that guy from Dawson's Creek.

Though i've never seen or heard of the guy before today, just hope he is different enough and its believeable with him being so young. Just not sure if he can pull off the authority feel that the other doctors did.
He does look tall so thats good, just wonder what he will look like next to an older actor. If Tate came back for an episode, people would think she is his mommy.



Honestly seems to be someone that the TPTB on Stargate Universe would pick as a leading guy.

I have to say, Paterson Joseph looks much blacker in Survivors.

I've never heard of Matt Smith, but he looks a bit weird*, and he's obviously highly rated by Moff and the BBC. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with the part. I doubt those saying he'll be Tennant 2.0 with be proven right. It would be interesting to give him an older companion - a shame Donna probably won't be around by then.

And I've realised just how much I'm going to miss Tennant now that his time is drawing to a close. Not just his Doctor, but the way he handles himself so perfectly in interviews and all the promotional stuff. Like Pertwee and Tom Baker, he really has been The Doctor.

Frankly, as great as Tennant was, I never really got much of an "authority" vibe off him either.

Personally I'd rather have someone who can pull off that slightly odd and alien kind of look, like Tom Baker or Eccleston had. There have been far too many Doctors who just didn't have that (as far as I'm concerned), and I think this guy definitely does.

And I love how young man = emo. The guy was optimistic, charming and interesting - about a million miles away from anything I'd associate with "emo". My word some of you guys can be really superficial.

Well, that's rather rude. I'm allowed to express my opinion, just like anyone else. I didn't like him in the interview I saw, I thought he was too young, but I never said anything about him being "emo." And I noticed you cut out the part of my post where I said I shall simply have to "get over it," which I think indicates I am NOT taking this all that seriously.

I don't curse anyone out for their opinions. I rather expect the same. We're talking about a TV show here. I don't think it's worth cursing and insulting people.

I like the hair, and I like the colours in the photos, but I agree those photos are just PR photos nothing more.
