11th Doctor Casting announcment tommorow

I actually think that this will turn out to be genius. I was skeptical when I first saw him but the more I think about it and looking at him and hearing the way he spoke, what Moffat's thinking was etc and I'm coming round to the idea. He really does have this odd timeless look about him that seems to work for some reason, and from what little I have seen of his acting he seems to be a good performer.

I think that I may actually fall in love with this guy in the role if handled well - in fact, my reaction to him is pretty much my exact reaction to both Eccleston and Tennant. The whining of some fans is also very familiar.

so? Tennant played several roles for Big Finish before becoming Ten including a Time Lord in the Unbound story "Exile" and Col. Brimmecombe-Wood of UNIT...

Now it's going to be very difficult to have the Doctor and companion being similar in age without there being romantic overtones.
Why shouldn't there be romantic overtones?

It's going to get very old, very quickly if the Doctor is constantly falling in love with every companion, or every companion falling in love with the Doctor.

It's suppose to be a Sci-fi Fantasy series, not a soap opera.

I'm wondering if it's going to be an older companion to go with the younger Doctor?

Getting a companion that compliments a younger Doctor is going to be hard.
The problem is accentuated by the over sexualisation of the Doctor in recent years.

Davison got away with companions quite close to his age cause at that time the idea of the Doctor having a romantic relationship with a companion was never on the cards.

Now it's going to be very difficult to have the Doctor and companion being similar in age without there being romantic overtones.

I'm sure they will find a character and actor that will work as a companion to Matt Smith's Doctor- but it will be tricky.

I don't think there'll be a problem. The new show has already done the romance thing with two different companions, and from interviews I get the impression they aren't looking to go back to that well again (which is why we got Donna).

Come on now! We had a romance story arc and an unrequited love story arc, and that's it. I don't know where this "constantly" is coming from.

And frankly I don't get it when people associate "romance" and "soap opera". Romance is everywhere in literature. Hey, it even happens in real life!

Wow this will be interesting having a 26 year old actor. If they cast em any younger I'm really gonna feel old. It's a little bit daring but might appeal to a wider, younger audience and draw in the "Twlight" crowd. Stephen Moffatt knows "his Doctor" so I have full confidence that this is going to be excellent. I can't wait!

BIGGER!

Let the Mr. Smith jokes begin and I was right!

C'mon some unknown actor with a little bit of theater background! :D

So not impressed with this choice. Of all the talented actors out there, they go with a BOY.

Ah well. Life is full of disappointment, so you move on.

Here comes the Doctor Goth/Vampire Fan Fiction. May God have mercy on our souls.

:wtf: Now, you're just making stuff up! ;)

I don't believe it.

Hmm, I just watched the Confidential, and it sounds like Moffat liked Matt's hair as it is. So I guess we're stuck with it.

Oh well, it's not really any more ridiculous than Baker's hair. Or Troughton's. lol

I'll withhold my judgement till I've seen him in action.

But, the doctor being an emo teenager with silly hair is not encouraging.

So he can't be a talented actor unless he's an age you approve of? Don't be so fucking ridiculous.

And I love how young man = emo. The guy was optimistic, charming and interesting - about a million miles away from anything I'd associate with "emo". My word some of you guys can be really superficial.

Did they say whether the outfit we see in the promotional pics is the new Doctor's outfit?

It's not his age that worries me - he could be 18 for all I care, as long as he he has the kind of gravitas that makes it believable that he is a x-hundred year alien, with all the wisdom that comes with that.

From what I've seen in interviews, I don't see it - not yet at least.

But then, maybe I'm just overly picky. I was not impressed with David Tennant at first either, I only started liking him when he started having companions that played his stronger sides, like Donna.
