Contest: ENTER ✨⭐✨ 200th Fan Art Challenge – “YOUR Star Trek” – With PRIZE!

Welcome to the August 2021 Fan Art Forum Challenge! It's the 200th (!) edition of the challenge in the 20+ years history of the TrekBBS (here's some history on the contest and a list of previous themes and winners) and I think this calls for a celebration, or at the very least a special edition of the contest. There's also a precious prize involved! (More on that further down.)

What I would like to do for this contest is invite the rest of the board – yes, even and especially YOU!!! – to join in on this special occasion and enter a submission of your own. To that end, and with the indispensable help of @Cyfa, we've come up with a theme that we hope opens the door to all of you. We call it:

YOUR Star Trek

Your task is to create something out of Trek that means something to you. It can be your favorite ship, character or idea. Or just some Trek thing that you like/wanted to draw, model, photograph, cosplay or sing etc. Do you own a Star Trek costume? Well, then snap a photo of it and submit it to the contest! You're into Trek gaming? Then make a screenshot of something you created in the game! Almost anything goes this time. There's just a pair of simple rules:
  • the piece you submit should be created during the month of the challenge and specifically for it
  • only one final image can be submitted (although it may contain multiple views)
  • your final entry should be posted in this thread (although dedicated WIP threads are cool and appreciated)
Please submit your entry by the end of the month, midnight (BST) on Tuesday 31st August. Have fun and good luck!

Oh yes, the prize! Since this is a special contest, we're even having a prize this time around. Whoever wins this contest will be gifted this beautiful, still sealed XL model of the Enterprise from Discovery. (The unpacked one in the photo is my duplicate.) I'm shipping this to wherever you are in the world free of charge (well, most destinations, anyway).

Any questions, suggestions or feedback? Just let me know down below! And again, have fun!

Merciful Mogg! A physical prize beyond bragging rights? If that does not encourage more members to participate, I have no idea what can!

Yes, I realize this will NOT become a regular thing. This is to celebrate the 200th contest and I suspect you already had this item on hand and was not sure what to do with a second miniature.

Still, what a grand gesture!

Yes, I had that spare one lying around here for quite some time. At first I thought about selling it on ebay, but then the idea for the 200th contest came up and it was just too good to pass up. It really is one of the better models of the collection, I think. Of course you'd have to be a fan of the design to begin with, which isn't necessarily everyone. But again, I would rather it gets to someone as a prize than keep it in its box on a shelf forever.

Ah, so that's the prize! It's far more significant than I expected - I thought it would be a token gift, but it's the Enterprize! :rommie:
I hope both the prize and the fact that it's the 200th challenge will be a draw to many people. Good luck everyone!

Hmn... What to do...
TOS ships? STE/ENT-era ships?
Write-ups for Golden Hedrons in my WoDDnD campaign (which has Star Trek-inspired Enlightened Scientists and a Starfleet)?
Hmn.............

Edit: Hoping & praying i don't wreck myself on this one, LOL!
Presently, there is a civil war in my mind.
Part of me is determined to make a trio of TOS ships, 2 of which are precursors to the Oberth...
Another part is trying to plot out an ENT/STE-era carrier.
And a third part wants to make a Trek Timelines infographic...

For clarification, if i am making multiple ship designs, they 'would' be allowed as long as they make one unified image? Or would that be viewed as each ship being a separate project?
To be clear, i am making 3-4 TOS ship classes & tbd# alien objects, presented in the Franz Joseph style.

Yes, you can do that. :techman:

This is an epic challenge! I will not be entering as I cannot put in a piece of artwork, what Trek means to me. It means so much. I means too much. But most of all it means to me to strive to be a better person. To explore all ideas, and have dialogue about them. To not limit ourselves with the details, but to embrace with broad strokes concepts and questions. I cannot put that in a piece of artwork, as it is my whole philosophy, and that cannot be confined to one piece :)

Aww, that's beautifully said, @Atolm! In a lot of ways I feel exactly the same: Trek means so much to me on so many different levels. Trek isn't just one thing to me. But still, I'm bummed this means you don't want to enter. Because of course the idea is to get as many people as possible to enter. You don't have to create something that represents everything that Trek means to you, but maybe a single aspect would do. Take your love for creating starships, for example. That could be a wonderful starting point for an entry. I'm not trying to convince you to enter if you absolutely don't want to, of course. Just trying to show that's there's definitely ways to “think a little smaller” if Trek means so many different things to you. :)
