Sometimes the title of a movie is very clever. Dr.Strangeloves entire move title is pretty strange. Scanners was a movie that I went to having no idea what the movie was about thanks to the title. And when I went to see SEVEN, it was for a test screening of that movie and no one had any idea what we were seeing. Same thing when I saw a test screening for The Sixth Sense. But in the Sixth Sence's case it had a totally different title for the test audience I was with. It was called Watermelon Juggernaught, go figure..

..can you think of other movies that you have gone to see, based on the title, and either thought 'what does that title have to do with the movie' or 'dang, that was a clever movie title'...

I usually do some research about a movie before seeing it, so I'm rarely surprised by the content.

I can think of one movie off of the top of my head that could surprised uninformed people if they go to it based on the title, Serenity.

Ghost in the Shell. I was thinking about this in the shower today, how that fits to the idea of souls. Inside our bodies. If a robot is smart enough, can it get a soul? Such a classic cyberpunk title.

Guess Who's Coming To Dinner? It's such a scandalous, gossipy phrase that someone who's doesn't want to be overtly offensive would say.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind My favorite movie of all time and it has a great title. Taken from Eloisa to Abelard by Alexander Pope. The poem is quoted by Kirsten Dunst's character and it fits perfectly with the film's premise:

How happy is the blameless vestal's lot!
The world forgetting, by the world forgot.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!
Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd

I'm not smart enough to pull a line out of poetry and equate it to a screenplay. Then again, I'm not Charlie Kaufmann.

Definitely, Maybe was one of the best movies of 2008, but it's shit title makes it seem like another bland rom-com and it has nothing to do with anything. Of course "How I Met Your Mother" was taken but they should've found a better title to draw people in.

The title Funny Games makes me uncomfortable considering how events played out in the film. But that's the point of calling it Funny Games. I just hated it.

It's a great movie and I get what they were trying to do, but The Squid and the Whale is so pretentiously titled and has little to do with the story or the characters. Especially since the anvilicious final shot is literally a giant museum model of a squid battling a whale. It screamed "test screening note & reshoot." You would never get that movie and think you'd get a drama about divorce. Not to crap on it, because I love it and think that Jeff Daniels and Laura Linney gave their best performances ever but the title hurts it.

A Time To Kill got me. When it came out, I had no idea what the movie was about. I found myself bored and alone one evening so I went out to the theatre to see a movie, but had no idea what was playing. So I made my decision on what to see when I got there and saw what was playing. This movie's title said to me something like a Deathwish take or some other kind of shoot 'em up film. I definitely wasn't expecting a racially charged legal drama.

My mother and her sister had a similar experience when they went to see Midnight Cowboy in the theatres. It had them both saying "Hey! This ain't a western!"

True Romance. I first ran across it on late night tv, saw the title and assumed it'd be a nice boring romantic drama that'd help cure my bout of insomnia...it wasn't and it didn't.

One of my favorite movies. And my favorite Tarantino-involved one (he wrote it). The scene with Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken is truly classic. And Brad Pitt's performance... "Wanna come in and smoke a bowl?" Fantastic cast, great movie.

I've always thought that The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance was an interesting title, as it gives away the fate of the villian and makes you wonder which character (Wayne or Stewart) kills him.

also, while Highlander is a average movie, I always loved the title for some reason.
