Your controversial Doctor Who thoughts / opinions

All the spin offs were at least a *little bit shit* even the best of them. (SJA was bit *too* what middle class BBC execs think kids need in their shows and Torchwood was the same, but aimed at the Two Pints audience. For example.)

Hard disagree. I often enjoyed Sarah Jane Adventures more than the then-current run of Doctor Who, frequently reflecting that SJA's stories were what I wanted from Doctor Who instead much of what Davies gave us at the time. I agree most of Torchwood was pure dreck, but Children of Earth was excellent.

I would've loved a Paternoster Gang series but I suspect it would've been too niche...and maybe too expensive for the BBC due to the period sets and costumes along with the Silurian and Sontarian make-up.

At least we got a Big Finish series for a little bit...although I haven't listened to it yet, just Strax's appearances in Jago & Litefoot.

Yeah the SJA were great, Torchwood (outside of CoE) not so much.

I still wish we'd had a Paternoster Gang show (but I do get that the joke might have got thin very quickly)

isnt the paternoster gang that trio from the victorian era who often teams up with the 11th and 12th doctor along with there companions rory clara and amy

and its most likely that they do have a show but only in the famous doctor who hardcover paperback and audio books universe

here is a my somewhat controversial thought and opinion

even thought the tv verison of doctor who ended

but unlike in the whosverse audio paperback and hardcover books verisons the whosverse is still on going with tons of doctors many companions and unlimited of adventures threw out space and time in the whosverse universe

If they did it it needed the classic British sitcom 6 episode run.

A *little bit* though.
Though a lot of the actors in SJA were some of the best Who had to be fair.
CoE I remember being really hard-hitting and a bit ‘wow’ but I can never go back to it now, and Miracle Day just makes me wonder if it was an accident — the went for edgy and it worked first time, but not the second.
I’ll say this though — I have never been a Barrowman fan (everyone knew he liked getting his todger out before he even got the job — heck it was common knowledge around a fair chunk of the West End creative scene when he was in Miss Saigon) but he really does a decent job when he’s given the scripts.

Controversial opinion that I am currently entratining having just to be an irritating person:
If you’re a Johnny Come Lately who doesn’t know anything pre 2005 as a fan, you should respect your elders a little better and not offhandedly disregard information that comes from before Tennants Doe Eyes caught you. (I’d say Ecclestone, but we al know why the viewing figures shot up… it was when the Tall Version of Richard Hammond showed up)

Call me crazy, but when I become a fan of something, I want to experience as much of it as I can and know as much as I can. But I always see people online saying variations on “I love Franchise X! How much of it can I skip? Do I really have to watch that or read that?”

I’ve seen people ask if they can safely skip Blade Runner so they can watch Blade Runner 2049 because they’re so excited about it. It’s only two movies! You can do it in one night! Why would you even want to see 2049 without seeing the original? Ryan Gosling? Ana de Armas? Not Jared Leto, I hope.

The BF Jago and Litefoot audios are wonderful.

They've only made some guest appearances in the books and maybe comics, but there is a Big Finish series that ran from 2019 to at least 2025. I'm not sure if it's over or if they just haven't released anything this year yet.

I'm pretty much the complete opposite when it comes to that kind of stuff, if I get into a new franchise I'll try and do whatever I can to experience as much of it as possible.
