This was just released.
It seemed relevant to the Artemis Mission.

Before SLS, there was the Ares V concept, though COMET was what Mike Griffin really wanted:

A single launch scenario.

The Saturns—working moonships—were killed…and what took over the pads? A much ballyhooed tile-covered contraption that was going to be reusable and cheaper.

Uh-huh.

No hint of Lunar Starship…it is the hold up.
….as I knew it would be. Oh well…Starship can always be the scow needed to haul off Orion’s W/C contents.

NASA wanted a much smaller design that would fly frequently and cheaply, but then the Pentagon waned in on it with the requirements to fly large spysats. That settled on the Rockwell design pretty quickly which just happened to be the most complicated device ever made and America lost the ability to make the mighty F1 engines and thus Saturn V. With SLS we’re still living with those bad choices. But.. to quote an old Star Trek episode “everything works”. Anyway feels nice not having to be nostalgic about space flight, finally.
