I don't know if @Lonemagpie has linked his review here, but it's a good 9ne and includes a reference to pantropy that I appreciated having brought to my attention.

Count me as someone who noticed the dummy but it actually made me laugh more than anything else. Feels like something they would have done on TOS. I wonder if we will next see a fist fight were we can clearly see it isn't the actors fighting but the stunt doubles.

I think we saw that in the Una v La'an fight.

Does it really matter? Archer ignored the XCV-330 Enterprise on his wall. Even though it appears on the wall of the 602 Club in his time.

I think the idea there is that only Federation history matters. And ships like the NX-01 predate Federation history. The goal is to promote some type of Federation pan-nationalism, and focusing on vessels that predate the Federation distract from that.

    If that works for you.

I’d prefer to think that the Stardate system came about when the Federation was formed as a comprised from the founding members when recording dates. As the human, Vulcan, Andorian and Tellarite calendars - and all of their colonies - are all different from one another.

The Ready Room writers probably don't have any insider knowledge from the show writers, but they did say the Illyrian's first on screen appearance was in Enterprise showing clips from the episode.

Also this week's trivia question was when the Eugenics Wars ended and they put 1996 as the answer.

That makeup test wasn't for Number One. They were just using Majel to test the makeup that would eventually use on Susan Oliver as the Orion Slave in Pike's fantasy strip joint.

    Best episode so far.

Interesting that Una is the one who's genetically modified.

Honestly, Beyond was the movie that won me over to NuTrek in general and that gave me faith that the new generation of creators would "get" Trek (even if they weren't doing it the way my fanfics would do it). Between that movie and the first season of DSC (and all the shows since), I've been far more at peace with and gotten far more enjoyment out of NuTrek than I ever thought I would in my "hater" days (I have never been fond of the first two reboot films, STID especially).

I've never looked back. SNW is just the icing on the cake for me, b/c I've also always been curious about what a Captain Pike show would look like, and this is an amazing take on the concept.

Give it a spin. I think it's a great movie and I don't think many Star Trek movies are great. I really need to catch it again before it goes off Netflix for me.

I for one, liked it a lot.

    9.

    Not perfect. Had some holes.

Hard for me to believe Starfleet could not determine Una was an augment/Illyrian. Seems like they knew & covered it up, hence all the classification of the files.

Ditto Khan. Could it not be true that the things ye did during TWOK are considered massacres? I kean, he did massacre the folks on the science station, right?

I thought the moral about not trying to change yourself to mold to the "norm" was powerful and right on the money.

Just watched this episode. Best so far I thought. I really like Hemmer a lot.

I'm still not 100% won over, but I do think this is a good show. A good show on it's own terms. It's Star Trek I could watch with my wife without having to explain what a million callbacks mean.

Not sure, but I thought that this obvious mistake was the best part of the episode, considering the production values of TOS.

I think LDs actually addressed this in one of their episodes...

It's not that much about the accent but about the hoarseness, like he has a bad cold

How can removing genetic upgrades turn you into an energy being? The ultimate upgrade? You get the best upgrade when you downgrade? :D:shrug:

They were more interesting than other parts of the story, but left without further details - maybe another episode tells us more about them

During our own lockdown, people were still allowed and supposed to go to work and back home if their work was considered essential, like bridge duty

No one in the UK is broadcasting them. And my pension doesn't stretch to streaming subscriptions. :)
