Could her personality and way of talking as well as her serving on a medical fregatte be things that the writers introduced to make her related to Dr McCoy? I think, especially after watching "An Obol for Charon", there's a real possibility for that being true.
She's about as related to McCoy as Pulaski is. Oh, and before someone says "They'll make all three of them related!", don't even...
Or a jet terminal at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport in Nevada. But I think the suggestion of Janet Reno's name above probably played a big part in the choice of (nick)name and possibly the tough as nails personality a bit too (although she's also just Tig Notaro's own personality in large part). I'm sure she's "spiritually" related to McCoy in terms of being inspired by him a bit, but no, I don't think they're actually related just because they're both somewhat cantankerous middle-aged Southerners with a sarcastic wit, deadpan delivery, and medical skill (peripheral to her engineering skills in Reno's case).
First, we need to find out if she can make a mint julep, or has ever wanted to portray an archangel when beaming down somewhere.
So, just because she's snarky and was assigned to a medical ship she's related to McCoy? Does that mean House is one of McCoy's ancestors?
That b**ch isn't related to Leonard (Bones) McCoy in any way. IDK - as a TOS fan who enjoyed most of the sparing between Spock and McCoy; the 'Jet Reno' character has even more (IE for me it's ramped up to 11) of the attitude of the 'Leonard (Bones) McCoy' but NONE of his 'other side' qualities (IE she has zero warmth or charm). It's that warmth and charm that balanced out McCoy for me, and made him an enjoyable character. I don't care for 'Jet Reno' as presented so far, and wouldn't shed a tear if she got taken out by an asteroid fragment like Connolly. (YMMV).
Has Tig actually said yet why she wanted to change the characters name to "JET"? I've seen a couple of interviews where she has stated that she did request the change (addition?), but I don't remember her saying why. (might be another of my Senior Moments)
Reno has warmth and charm in spades. Maybe, is it possible that her gender might have something to do with your perception that she might be lacking in that regard? Often, attributes that would be seen as positive in a man or male character are somehow perceived as negative in a woman, this might be one of those instances. I mean, look at headstrong, competitive female politicians and how some parts of the popolus react to them versus headstrong, comepetitive male politicians that get praised for this characteristics by the same people. I'm not necessarily trying to play the 'sexism card' here (however, granted, the first sentence of your post is a very good indication in that regard), I just try to understand where you are coming from
Um no - gender has nothing to do with my interpretation of the character; and I see no warmth or charm at all just an "I'm always right"/"You should be happy I bother to speak to you at all/stay out of my way you peons" attitude
Exactly what did she say or do in your eyes that demonstrates any real warmth or charm towards others? I didn't see anything, hence my comment. That's why. Again, what elements of warmth or charm did you see that I didn't?
