    Could the space around KIC 8462 be so cold that the flux that is missing from the star is converted into dust particles that is causing the dips in the light curve of KIC 8462?

    Radiometric observations at different wavelengths have already produced a reasonable explanation for the KST observed time series as I mentioned several posts back. I would suggest finding a different dead horse to flog.

    A Premise For Life Existing In The Universe Outside of Earth.

    There has been a lot of discussions about Tabby's Star being influenced by a Dyson Sphere or Dyson Swarm. With Tabby's being 1,275 light years from Earth, determining that an artificial source, such as a Dyson Sphere, could be responsible for the fluctuation in a light Sun's light curve is a "best guess possible" scenario.

    But..but if we look at Earth's own technological advancements over the course of thousands of years that culminates with space exploration we can see that there are two elements that have been critical to Earth's technological and advancements that have built a stairway into the unknowns of space.

    Those two elements are gold and copper.

    Silver has the best thermal conductivity and highest light reflectance value, but copper and gold have a higher corrosion resistance value compared to silver.

    But why is gold a better conductor?

    The electrons in gold have less resistance and can move more easily. The level of resistance is caused mainly by the amount of energy that is needed for electrons to detach from their valence state (fixed state of electron, close to proton) to their conductive state (able to move freely). If the energy needed for electrons to detach is low, more electrons are in their conductive state, making this metal a better conductor of electricity.

    At the base of the Kardashev Scale is the type I Civlization - A Type I designation is a given to species who have been able to harness all the energy that is available from a neighboring star, gathering and storing it to meet the energy demands of a growing population. This means that we would need to boost our current energy production over 100,000 times to reach this status. However, being able to harness all Earth’s energy would also mean that we could have control over all natural forces. Human beings could control volcanoes, the weather, and even earthquakes! (At least, that is the idea.) These kinds of feats are hard to believe, but compared to the advances that may still be to come, these are just basic and primitive levels of control (it’s absolutely nothing compared to the capabilities of societies with higher rankings).

    A Type I Civilization would have discovered that gold and copper are the best conductors to use in any technological component meant to transmit a set of orders to another component in their attempts to harness the energy from their sun.

    The simplest component transmission would be from a computer to a servo that is used to position a solar array panel to collect the energy from the sun at all angles.

    Therefore a solar system that is being considered a likely candidate for a potential Type I civilization should first have its gold filament volume established. A gold filament volume is the amount of gold that can be detected in orbit around the sun being scanned.

    Since gold is created in super nova that then releases the gold into the surrounding region, a region must be determined to have had a super nova event in its past. A super nova event in the regions past would distribute enough gold to the surrounding systems and evolving planets to allow for advanced components to be developed. Advanced components that would need the best source of conductive elements in order to transmit and process orders at the fastest possible speeds possible. The faster a computer is able to transmit it's communications the faster that an order is received and the end process achieved. Time and efficiency if you will.

    Copper is a second best conductor to gold but a second best is not good enough for the rigors of space travel and harvesting energy from the sun and establishing colonies away from the home planet.

    Copper would allow for advanced civilizations, but without gold the Type I civilization would most likely be confined to their own planet or planets such as Mars or the Moon that are relatively close to each other.

    A region that has a high gold particle content would be a system that would be justified as having the potential to support a Type I Civilization. If a large quantity of gold is found in the region then most likely other metals such as lead, zinc, silver and copper will also be found on rocky planets within a solar system.

    If the gold levels of KIC 8462852's solar system or other scanned solar system can be determined to be comparable to the levels of gold in our own solar system then the scanned solar system is more likely to be a potential for a habital planet or a solar system that has a Type I civilization with life already in the system.

    Gold = Atomic mass: 196.96657 u ± 0.000004 u <--- the weight of gold.

    That's just an average over the isotope masses found in a typical sample on earth. What about gold's atomic number, 79? The number of protons in the nucleus identifies an element.

    Another search criteria for planets with life on it should involve a method for detecting garnet. Without garnet being present to soak up iron a planet will simple become like Mars. https://www.livescience.com/62610-garnet-stealing-iron-from-earths-crust.html

    If a method can be developed to determine the potential volume of garnet in a system that would allow a planet to sustain life that could lead to a Dyson Sphere civilization, then a better more precise equation can be used to determine a solar systems life sustainability.

    but until someone demonstrates "room temperature" superconductors that are also economically viable, gold still functions in a lot of circumstances where superconductors cannot.

    True, but get far enough away from the star and cryogenic temperature superconductors will work just fine or you can just use abundant solar power to support cryogenic cooling. I was just pointing out the inaccuracy of the other poster's statement.

    What we could be seeing taking place in KIC 8462852's solar system is not an advanced life form....but the formation of life taking place.

    Life forming in a solar system has never before been seen or witnessed. But according to NASA, 92% of planets that are habitable have yet to come. Life forming in a solar would therefore create a lot of odd occurrences to say the least as the elements combined in such a way that would effect the suns output or its light curve as a whole.

    The solar systems that are unique and have odd light curve values similar to KIC 8462 that are not understood could be explained as potentially being solar systems where life is forming and slowly taking hold.

    We know that life exists on Earth. Would it be so illogical that planets close to Earth might also have encountered the same circumstances that sparked life on Earth but took slightly longer to do so?

    Think of a camp fire and a log.

    One point on the log will catch fire, this is the point at which life came to be on Earth, then slowly through the transfer of energy to the rest of the log, the log catches fire.

    Distance between Earth and Sun : 149.6 mil km
    Speed of Light: 299,792,458 m/s
    Time it takes for light to reach Earth:499.102 sec
    div by 60 = 8.31 minutes
    Light travels in a day
    (299,792,458 m/s)•(3600 s/hr)•(24 hr/day) = 25,902,068,371,200 m/d

    Therefore the distance between the first dip A and second dip B would be 3,108,248,204,544,000 or 310,824,820,455 billion km approx. in distance meters based on a light calculation value.

    Jupiter is approx. 778,600,627.2 km from the Sun.
    Pluto is approx. 4.44 billion km from the Sun.

    The distance between dip A and B is therefore 70.00559019259757 times greater than the distance between the Sun and Pluto.

    KIC 8462 is larger than our sun. A larger sun means that a larger gravitation field that is able to capture planetary bodies at a greater distance from KIC 8462. Therefore the 2% dip in the light of KIC 8462 could have been because of a Super Gas Giant with a large ring of asteroids around it as well as having trailing asteroids. The planet could be at the edge or near the edge of the gravitational field of KIC 8462 at 310,824,820,455 billion km from KIC 8462 that would allow the Super Gas Giant to capture and retain any asteroids that might have come close to KIC 8462 but became trapped in the Super Gas Giants own gravity.

    After discussing the above calculation with members from the KIC Reddit the distance is too far from KIC for the object to create a dip in the light curve of KIC because the object take to long to orbit KIC 8462.

    But another idea that I had involves using the actual transit time using the speed of light variable to generate a total distance that light would have traveled during the transit.

    The blue lie before each dip is called the stellar flux or radiation that is emitted by a star every second as it passes though a unit area.

    The dip is an object blocking or rather absorbing the EM radiation that causes the stellar flux to diminish.

    The transit above marked as "A" is approximately 2 days in length.

    How Far Does Light travels In A Day
    (299,792,458 m/s)•(3600 s/hr)•(24 hr/day) = 25,902,068,371,200 m/d

    2 days x 25,902,068,371,200 m/d = 58,804,136,742,400 meters or 58,804,136,742.40000153 km that light would traveled within the two day transit of A.

    The transit marked "B" is approximately 1 day in length.

    1 day x 25,902,068,371,200 m/d = 25,902,068,371,200 meters or 25,902,068,371.20000076 km that light would traveled within the 1 day transit of B.

    Since we know that light curves around an object with gravity, such as sun or planet, as light passes close to the planet we could theorize that a portion of the distance that light would have traveled would have been bent around the object creating the dip.

    Think of a flexible tape measure as a ray of light traveling through space. The tape measure encounters the gravity of a planet and is thus bent around the planet thus effecting the measurable distance that the ray of light would traveled before it encountered the gravity of the planet.

    The question is: how much increased distance does an orbital body add to a light ray as it bends around a planet?
    Can the increased distance traveled by the light ray that has been bent around a planet be compared with the distance traveled of a light ray that does not come into contact with the gravity of a planet and can the increase in the distance that the light ray has traveled because of being bent by the planets gravity be converted to determine how massive the planet is that is causing the increase in the distance that the light ray has traveled because of the gravitational influences of the planet?

    How far does light travel in a day when it encounters a planet such as Earth or Jupiter?
