I am thoroughly intrigued and excited that they're doing something different, i just can't imagine what it might be.

Star Wars never really gripped me before Episode 7, but the fresh energy is pulling me in proper.

I take it you don't like Rian Johnson's movies? The only one of his movies I've seen is Looper, and I thought it was really good.

Well Looper was okay, I wouldn't say it was the best movie, but I've never been a fan of Johnson's directing style. Its still a cut above JJ, but that's a low bar. I suppose he may do well, but I've seen and read allot about TLJ, and quite frankly I think even tho it may do well financially, it's story and content are annoyingly frustrating. I am however holding out hope of an old republic trilogy, or something long in the future of that universe. Imagine a galaxy far far away suffering a galactic collision with another galaxy and invading hordes... Talk about a massive war! That would be epic!

Yep, sure do. I love the triggered..they're so much fun.

Such as? I mean, I've generally avoided story details, but TLJ's trailers, while not "Wowing" me at least have garnered enough interest that I'll see it once.

I was wondering about that too. I've like what I've seen and read so far, and I don't see anything "annoyingly frustrating".

Well that's just because you're not reading too much into minor details presented out of context, or making massive sweeping assumptions based on preconceptions and next to no actual facts. You poor rational fool you!

You know a Dash Rendar Trilogy would be awesome tho. I'd love to see that or, actually I think the Dash Rendar saga might be better suited to a Star wars tv series, if Disney was real smart, that would be a huge nod to fans, still fits canon, and would be a great show if done to the standards of the movies. I can see the set for dash's ship the Outrider would make an excellent place to keep costs low. As for a different trilogy. If they go big, old republic, or do the best thing and go far far future, they could free themselves up with new tech, New ships and looks, but similar flash Gordon serial themes, then it may work. Personally I'm hoping to get a bit of that 47 ronin style feel. Kang the merciless mercenary droids. Drone warfare. Hell maybe a sort of veritech gerwalk mode fighter with arms that can rip giant ships apart in strategic areas, used to be used for mining asteroids or something like that. But heck anything away from the whole mess of the Skywalkers, and something familiar in theme, maybe in the future they don't even remember the force. This new trilogy has made me come to dislike how my favorite characters turned out. All that work for nothing. So many options, I just hope they do something away from Disney's board room corporate formulaic script mandates. Its safe, but safe isn't new, and original. Safe is code for boring crap over and over.

Everything about this sentence is wrong, and it should feel wrong.

I'm amused by the idea of having "nods to fans" and then being "safe." Fan service is among the safest ways to continue a series, as TFA is often accused of.

Doesn't Pablo hate Shadows of the Empire? That probably means Dash Rendar won't be added to canon anytime soon. Or ever.

I could see them going there, though maybe just as a punchline, jokey type reference.
I mean seriously, what's there to work with? He's a non-character. A one dimensional cardboard cutout stand-in for Han Solo who's only memorable trait is his ridiculous shoulder pads.

All that said, I really don't think Pablo or any of the story group has power of veto over things they just don't like. That's not how it works. Not that it matters since, as stated above I can't see any other creator being motivated to bring him back in any serious capacity.

Which is why he worked well as video game character but not as a movie character.

Splitting hairs I know, but I wouldn't say "worked well" so much as "adequately performed a basic function". Thing is, he wasn't just a video game character, but also a comic book and prose character.

Conversly I'd say Kyle Katarn did "work well", despite being conceived as just a video game character *and* despite also being somewhat Han Solo-esque (at least to begin with.) He was a dimensional character with a memorable personality and unique traits.

I could see Kyle Katarn being worked into the new canon long before Dash Rendar.
