^ Until their engine breaks down, and they need things that make them go. Somehow, I don't think they'll be able to trick the Borg into repairing their stuff for them ;)

It's unlikely that the Borg were eradicated in "Endgame". If a puny virus could achieve that, the Voth or anyone else would've sicced one on them by now.

We might note that the Sphere that carried our heroes home evidently survived the virus attack (but not the indigestion caused by the Voyager). Much of the Collective would be similarly physically separated from the Queen; whatever software blocks were in place would be crucial for the ultimate outcome.

On the other hand, Admiral Janeway says she injected "just enough" of the virus to "bring chaos to order", which is difficult to interpret as anything else but admission that total destruction was neither the goal nor the likely result.

Seven of Nine ultimately says that "the transwarp network has been obliterated", which may be a truthful and accurate statement, but need not indicate any permanence. That's the degree of devastation actually established, though, apart from the Delta Hub blowing up.

Obliterated: To destroy utterly, to wipe out.

I did say "In my mind." I think it's perfectly acceptable to interpret that the Borg were finished.

As a personal preference, the Borg collective cease to exist, anyone still connected to the collective had their nano-probes stop functioning.

All drones became individuals, many likely died.

Inside Star Trek, the Borg served their purpose, but had begun to be vastly overused, it was time for them to go away for good.

The Borg have been defeated a few times that could be considered permanent so long as the writers don't resurrect them for a new story. Hugh's individuality could have worked, or FC, or Endgame. Unless or until there is a canon follow-up to the Next Gen era showing that the Borg are back, Endgame canonically destroyed them.

Or, as the precedent you quoted states, put them on hold.

In more general terms, whenever our heroes are absolutely certain that they have accomplished something, odds are that they failed, because that's where the interesting sequel lies.

The Galaxy is loaded with beings that could easily annihilate the Borg, in fact it's a miracle the Borg haven't pissed off the wrong species so far and gotten blown to scrap yet.

The Borg are slow, have you seen them walk? They are not bogged down with quantity, they want quality...heck, they have bypassed races cause they don't fit in with perfection...

I don't know why, but I now imagine the Borg being somewhat absurdly absolutely sure of that things go perfectly and something comes up that ruins it....So they start over from scratch.

Unlikely? Pretty much. A tad amusing? I think so.
