Ezri

EnsignTOS

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Why is it that a lot of fans don't seem to like her? I love her character! She's cute, smart, funny...what's not to love? :)

I don't think it's that some people don't like her, it's that she essentially became Jadzia Dax 2.0, and that irks some people. I doubt they have anything against Ezri herself, and quite frankly Nicole de Boer is just the most adorable person ever.

Also, there's a thread on this here: http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=251533
So you might want to ask a mod to either combine them or close this one.

Side note: Welcome to the board! :D

Really? Jadzia 2.0? I've heard a lot of complaints, but never that she was Jadzia 2.0. The characters where completely different. Ezri was less secure and bold, not as outgoing as Jadzia. Less snarky.

The only thing they had in common was that they were both caucasian females with a slug in their belly's.

The characters, yes, but it was that they replaced Jadzia with not only another trill, but the same Dax symbiont. I have heard the term "Jadzia 2.0" in the past, which is why I used it. I, personally, don't see her as Jadzia 2.0. I like Ezri as she was in the show.

Maybe that's what was the problem for me. I don't care for cute women ;)

But seriously, I found her whining, and confused in a very annoying way. So it was her manner and personality that I never liked.

She definitely was not Jadzia 2.0. She was nothing like Jadzia. Actually, maybe she should be a bit, through Dax. Forced loyalty to Worf was just that - unnatural, and forced. It didn't work for me at all.

That was the entire point of that storyline, wasn't it?
That through the Symbiont she had living memories and feelings for him, but they ultimately realized, that she is not the same person and there is no point to pursue a relationship.
The "relapse" they had is more excusable on her part, because if it wasn't for the connection through Dax, Worf would never have cared about her beyond a professional relationship.

Then again, this storyline and aspect of Trill social issues could only have been told with these two characters.

The friendship between Sisko and Dax was different, because Sisko was more a friend of Dax, the symbiont than with each indivdual host.

My complaint has always been that Ezri was too complex to introduced late in the series and at the last minute. Otherwise, I think NdB was a fine actress, better than TF, and I am not surprised that we got actual Trill episodes for the first time in two and a half seasons.

Thanks for the link! And for the welcome. :)

I wouldn't say I dislike Ezri, I just didn't think it was necessary for her to be a main character.

Yeah, I loved Ezri. She was my fave between the two. (I guess I have a thing for cute, pixie haired chicks...like the blonde pixie haired chick bridge officer in Star Trek Into Darkness that was briefly seen, and had one good close up when Kirk pleaded to Marcus for the lives of his crew.. ). :)

You'd have preferred them to intentionally introduce a less nuanced character?

And I disagree with the term "last minute"...they still had 14% of the series run to go.

Ill never understand the hate.

It was such a seamless transition, for an accidental offing I couldnt imagine something better done.

Ezri was okay. If she had a longer run she probably wouldn't have as much hate as she does, I think she had a lot more potential than Jadzia did going forward.

She was bubbly/perky/cute a combo that sets some people's teeth on edge.

I thought she was fantastic and Ms. deBoer did an amazing job walking into an impossible situation and making a character her own.

More importantly, she made the character interesting.

For the first six season, Dax was a total dud, uninteresting and a waste of screen time. It was clear the writers didn't like writing for her or knew what to do with her half the time--the oft cited number of attempts they tried to reinvent her being the most obvious evidence.

Exactly. Dax became relevant in the seventh season and Nicole deBoer owned it.

This is an often repeated notion, but it is really just a way of saying that the writers had trouble working around Farrell's limited acting skills. John Glover, Susanna Thompson, Rene Auberjonois, and Nicole de Boers all showed it was possible to play a character with multivalent personalities.
