I just saw your question about "The Doctor". You should read the novelization of "Day Of Honor" from Season 4. Michael Jan Friedman added a whole B-plot about the Doctor trying to find a holiday that he can consider his own. So you see the Doctor checking out a Christmas, Passover and a few other holidays on the Holodeck. Otherwise the Doctor is more of a supporting character, but in "Violations" he is called Doctor Zimmerman.
With the post series Janeway arc, you should also read the TNG novels "Resistance" and "Before Dishonor" (which also adds to Seven's character arc).
And then Tuvok also joins the crew of the Titan in Star Trek: Titan.
I think before I further my Trek reading (still on Mosaic) I should finish the series first. I don't want to get too overwhelmed.
Well with "Before Dishonor" it sets up a major plot arc in the post-Endgame novels that goes from "Full Circle" to "The Eternal Tide" and is still prevalent in "Protectors" and "Acts Of Contrition". So before reading "Full Circle" you need to read "Before Dishonour". Not even the Destiny series has as much impact on the Voyager novels as "Before Dishonor@.
I think most everyone knows how the Destiny trilogy goes, but it does have maybe three chapters set aboard Voyager.
I second this, I still haven't read Before Dishonour (I wanted to finish TNG first) and I didn't struggle with Full Circle at all. Everything is explained as you need to know it without mixing in characters from any other series and confusing you.
(Plus, it's a really good book.)
I'd disagree with that, as the "Full Circle" book told it from points of view of characters who were not at the event, but were getting the information from other places. Plus "Eternal Tide" has scenes set right at the moment of the event where the character is disoriented.
I'd say it's always more rewarding to have read the background material for whatever it is you read, Trek books especially. It really helps you appreciate what the authors are trying to do in their books
None of them are of any Earth-shattering importance, if I remember correctly.
Okay just so I understand everyone, after I read Homecoming and The Farther Shore (I know I keep confusing it with Distant Shores), I can just start on Full Circle? I don't have to read any of the between books (String Theory or Spirit Walk). I know I said earlier I didn't want to read the continuing books for various reasons but I'm willing to give them a try.
String Theory takes place during the TV series run.
Full Circle does pick up right after the events of the Spirit Walk 2 parter, but you can skip them. I know quite a few people on here who have. I did, but I also read up on the events on Memory Beta, the Star Trek wiki covering the books, comics, games, ect. There aren't any specif recaps for the books, but some of the different characters pages do, or at least did, go through the events of Spirit Walk. If you choose to do that, just be careful there are spoilers for later books on their too.
I have become very familiar with Memory Beta. I think I'll do that.
As one who did read the Spirit Walk duo, unless you're someone who has to read all the books in a series, IMHO you can probably just read the pair of Homecoming 1 & 2 novels, and go right to Full Circle without missing too much. The summary blurbs do give some info at least. The new German covers are nice, tho, and are on Memory Beta so maybe give them a look lol. As far as Before Dishonor, it's not even a Voyager novel (yes, TNG) and what happened there to any Voy. characters maybe in it is brought up in Full Circle. Perhaps just check out a summary or some reviews of the book somewhere.

I'm one of those who never read "Spirit Walk" or "Homecoming", and jumped to "Full Circle". I enjoyed the book very much, but I did feel I missed something. There were matters from a previous book(s) that were mentioned, but they didn't have that much influence on the plot, so it never bothered me.
However, I have read "Resistance" and "Before Dishonor".
I think you can jump right to "Full Circle", Janeway's Girl. If you feel like you're missing something, you can always read those "missing" books later.

The Spirit Walk books, as best as I recall, as it's been a few years since I read them, are pretty standalone. Looking at them with hindsight, I'd be willing to say that they were setting up what Christie Golden had intended to be various arcs she'd follow up on in later stories, but other thinks pulled her away from Voyager, and Kristen Beyer has since taken things in a separate direction all together. There is one major arc that had been kicked off, with another one that was starting at the end there, but both are dealt with in Full Circle in a way that you don't need to have read the Spirit Walk books first.
"Before Dishonor" may have the TNG moniker on it, but Janeway and Seven have major plots in the story.

One thing though... Janeway's Girl hasn't finished Voyager the series yet though! I personally feel that is essential before starting the novels because of stuff that gets called back to and also the personalities of Seven and the EMH, etc.
See I would have felt all wrong and dirty if I didn't read *every single* Voyager novel.
Those first few books were a bit meh though.
I even went back and read Jeri Taylor's books and few other stray Voyager books. I MUST READ THEM ALL!
But yeah I recommend personally starting with Homecoming and reading all of the relaunch novels sequentially. Even though the author changes, some of the plot points get called back to on occasion.
I suggest reading them all sequentially from start to finish so that nothing is missed! And if you are a VOY fan... it's just more Voyager which is always good.
I recommend though.. please don't start them til you finish the series! (Not counting the early novels like Pathways, Mosaic, etc. Just meaning the official post-series Relaunch Novels).
