Hobbit: Battle Of the Five Armies anticipation thread

Yeah, the mods can cancel this thread if they like the other Hobbit thread, but since this is the only film left, I figured it could get it's own thread.. especially since this newly dropped poster is so damn awesome. (Reminds me of the cover of my Dungeons & Dragons Player's Handbook)

Cool poster and I actually created one a few months back thinking, I guess wrongly that their was a separate anticipation thread for Smaug and not the continuation of the original thread that Skywalker created way back when and continues to post in.

Poster for "The Defining Chapter" of Hobbit movie contains... zero hobbits.

What am I most looking forward to about Hobbit 3?
Jackson finally making Tintin 2. :p

Sadly, I've come to that point as well. I enjoy The Hobbit films, but certainly not on the same level as I did with The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Should be a lot; tDoS felt like a much longer film than it was, but not in a bad way as far as I'm concerned.

(Thorin's boneheaded "let's kill a being of fire with something hot" plan notwithstanding, of course.)

^ To be fair, a dragon merely breathes fire. It isn't made of fire.

I wonder how much screentime Smaug will...really...have in this "battle" movie.

My guess is 30 minutes to 45 minutes.

Screentime or how long into the movie before he's killed?

There's no way he gets that much "screentime". I think he'll be dead within the first 15-20 minutes of the film. Getting maybe half that in screentime.

^ Jeez, spoilers, dude! ;)

How long into the movie, not screentime. I could see first 15-20, but I could see him making it a quarter of the movie (well, given the length of the movies, a sixth of the movie, maybe). My guess is there will be an opening scene and a Gandalf scene as well before the dragon dies, which is where I'm basing my number.

Yeah, I'm thinking at least 20-30 minutes myself. I honestly don't remember the book, like at all, so this is purely a guess with nothing to really back it up. It just seems like a good amount of time to really tie things up with Smaug and move on the the rest of the story.
I loved the fist two movies, so I'm really looking forward to this one.

I re-read the book a couple of months ago, Smaug's post confrontation with Bilbo time is very very limited indeed. He essentially arrives, lights a few rooves, and is shot down.

Given how drastically different the films are though, I expect (and damn well want) Smaug to have a full half hour killing spree.

Wow, I feel like a dunce. I didn't even notice your thread, Dimesdan. Sorry! :alienblush:

Yeah, I had created a thread back when the trilogy was just a duology and still early in production, but I can understand if people would rather have a new thread not burdened down with a ton of posts.
