It's like a 911's engine being behind the rear axle - it's by no means the most practical/efficient means of going about things, but after centuries of development working around the flaws they're not inclined to scrap everything!

    Same here.

Although possibly it would have been so surreal as to actually be pretty watchable.

    ....

    On second thoughts, no.

One of the things I'd like to do--had I the money, is to have architects, car-designers, and anime and manga folks from all the different design house do their take on trek ships.

The calendar has arrived - rejoice!

This is my favorite one yet. There's not a single picture I find 'meh', and they holes were returned to where they belong.

This is the first time we see an official image of the Enterprise-E separating.

It's good to see the Watchtower-class is still in use in the 24th century. The detailed hullplating is a highlight.

Triple Columbia-class beauty. I love the star background because it reminds me of real-life universe books I've been reading. Maybe January is my favorite entry.

Furthermore, I like how another NX-01.5 picture features two Contortrix-class escorts, suggesting an early revisit of the Xindi.

Another fun aspect is trying to decipher all the registries and shipnames printed on Starfleet hulls. Too bad the Watchtower- and Nova-class go unlabelled.
On the bright side, all of the Saber-class ships are
identifiable. Two of them a named for Humans (Peterson and Sanders), another one generically (Sentry) but - good for diversity - one has the alien name Garza. It's noteworthy that the Sabers have been modified from their original appearance, suggesting a refit.

Another image gives us a glimpse of the Reliant II, albeit without registry.

    Overall: great.

Um, Garza isn't an alien name, it's a Spanish and Latin American name. A rather common one, in fact.

... and for all we know, there are thousands of Bolians named "Peterson". ;)

That's the problem with "alien" names: there's bound to be a human language that has the word, and it's up to the reader so recognize them (as evidenced by such ships as the Tellarite freighter Moedigesnuit in Glass Empires, "moedige snuit" being Dutch for "brave snout").

Hmm. In a non-Trek (but Trek- and Humanx-inspired) SF short story I wrote, some years ago (in a milieu I call the First Contact Corps), I had a character named Borph Fergo.

My comics dealer will have a copy waiting for me this week, or so I'm told. Looking forward to this...

Speaking of which: just got my copy today from the aforesaid comics dealer. A little wary about selling me the calendar early, but when I explained about other outlets already delivering to their customers...well, that solved that one.

Two repurposed novel covers, among the best of their kind. Nice.

As for the one with the contentious ship names, "Assault on the Moons of Nibia"...do we have a class name for D.M. Phoenix's latest design? (Wishing I could make out the registry number on the Sentry, as well.) That particular artist has a great talent for coming up with designs that fit in architecturally between the "official" ones, and I hope to see more of this in future.

Beautiful and chilling work on Andrew Probert's part re: "Wolf 359 + 8 Days". I do second the wish for ship names and registries to be clear wherever possible, but that's a minor complaint. Mine is a more-than-occasional detail-obsessed mind, 'tis true. The tender/recovery/rescue designs, I also hope to see more of in the licensed product lines.

Tobias, combining the Titan and the Watchtower-class? Thank you! Danke!

More as I think of it, or if others think of it first...

Using a magnification glass, Sentry's registry reads as NCC-61898, if my quarter-century-old eyes aren't deceiving me.

The other ships in the group all have registries in the NCC-618xx range...?

So is the April image labeled as "D'ama class", "D4 class", or something else?

D-4 having been taken by the canonical Klingon Bird-of-Prey from Into Darkness, they should probably go with "D'ama"

Not necessarily. Ship class names can be reused (Intrepid-class) and one can differentiate between a D4-class battlecruiser and a D-4 class bird-of-prey.

And since "D'ama" is actually from FASA's D-4, which looks different than the rejected battlecruiser intended for Unexpected, and was about a century later in the timeline, they should probably just go with something else entirely.

(I forget, did Into Darkness actually call those ships "D-4"s on screen, or is that just BTS info?)
