Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII Well for those who care, Lucas has now officially stated (or at least told JW Rinzler of the Making Of books) that Boba Fett DID indeed survive the Sarlaac. http://makingstarwars.net/2014/07/b...-star-wars-episode-vi-according-george-lucas/ Although I'm not sure if it's canon just because Lucas says it, or if we still need to see something on screen... And I also wonder now if he might somehow pop up in Episode VII (and not just in his flashback/standalone film). Granted he'd be a heckuva lot older, but I still think it would be cool to see at some point.

Even though the old EU's been jettisoned it always sort of made sense that Boba would survive seeing as unprotected human and alien victims without thick protective body armor were supposed to survive for an extended period after being fed to the Sarlaac. I pictured Boba cutting or blasting his way out of the creature at some point after Luke and the Rebels had left Tatooine and crawling to the surface.

It would be cool to see him in the new movie. since this is the SW Universe we're talking about, having humans live longer because of medical technology made sense. In the EU 60-70 was basically treated like 40 when it came to comparing their live span to a real world life span, and I don't see why that wouldn't work with the movies, so Boba kicking butt at 70+ could be doable.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII You know, my first experience was with the first special edition on VHS. Its what I had for years. I got the original VHS (pre special edition versions) a few months a go, and watched them. I find them really inferior to the first special edition. Some scenes are not in there (like Luke/Biggs talking before flying off for the climax), Cloud City's interior looks really claustrophobic, and overall they just don't feel as good. Lucas definitely went too far later on, but the first special editions will always be the definitive versions for me.

And I do agree that some of the alterations did help expand the world and add some additional context (especially with something like the Biggs scene). But looking at the SEs now, I just find that the movies don't flow nearly as well (whether it's the clumsily inserted Jabba scene in ANH or the jarring dance number in ROTJ) and the primitive CG just stands out way too much, and is way too distracting. Plus I just think the 70s and 80s style of effects and model work is a lot more cool and fun to look at. For me the ideal cuts are the "Despecialized" versions, which went back to the original edits, but left in the corrected matte lines of the SE (one change I really don't mind). And of course they're in glorious HD.

Still, I consider the Special Edition to be my definitive one. That said, I think most can agree that the DVD and Blu Ray edition changes are probably the worst
Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII Yeah, adding a CGI Dug (Sebulba's species) to the nighttime shots of Jabba's Palace had absolutely no purpose other than "look, a Prequel alien inserted into an OT film! He's walking into the scene! Isn't that so kewl?" In some respects it's the dumbest and worst of all the Blu-ray alterations to the Original Trilogy.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII Not really Episode VII related, but as it's first SW product in a long time, Marvel is putting out an omnibus of the first 40-something issues of it's OT-era comics: http://www.theforce.net/story/front...he_Original_Marvel_Years_Next_Year_158875.asp I think that's pretty much from SW to THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK adaptations, which were part of the regular run (RETURN OF THE JEDI got a seperate miniseries). The Marvel series is interesting. It didn't really feature the Empire/Vader in an original story (The wheel) until about a year after the movie adaptation (In the meantime there was a send-up of the Magnificent Seven with the infamous "Jaxxon" and some other stories). Also for some reason, Hyperspace/lightspeed was referred to as "Warp" in the earlier issues. As the Star Wars universe was still forming so to speak, it took some interesting liberties that later EU didn't and is mostly campy fun. It was kind of slowly integrated into the 'canon' of the original, 90s-recent Expanded Universe, most notably with Sith lady Lumiya who had a major role in the LEGACY OF THE FORCE series. Of course it's also branded as part of the "Legends" brand. Dark Horse of course previously reprinted the Marvel stuff in omnibus format as well as regular tpbs. Makes me wonder how reprints of their material is going to work out in the future.

I collected and read a lot of the original Marvel Star Wars comics as a little kid and absolutely loved them. One of the best and most fun comic book series of the late '70s and the early-to-mid '80s.
