DC: Batman, followed very distantly by Superman and Green Lantern. Really, Batman (and associated characters) was the only thing i ever bothered to read consistently from dc.

Marvel: I grew up on the x-men, so I agree with the poster who said 'All the xmen!' Still, if I have to choose, I think I'll pick Nightcrawler. Or Rogue. Or Shadowcat. Or Wolverine. But probably Nightcrawler. (BAMF!)

Though, since the age of superhero films I've gained a huge new respect for Iron Man and Captain America. If I had to pick my favorite Marvel film character, I'd probably put Cap second after Nightcrawler, and Iron Man would definitely be in the top five.

How many other Things has there been that you had to specify Ben Grimm?

Issue 5, last month of the Fantastic Four, written by James Robinson, had the FF on trial for being unremitting assholes, and the lawyer prosecuting them was citing all this real stuff the happened in the 60s and 70s, and then how off camera all those supposedly heroic acts had all this extraordinary collateral damage to the NPCs (nonplayingcharacters) mounting up in the comic books.

There was this one guy testifying about how his dad suffered a financial collapse and fits of depression after the Thing threw his father's taxicab at the Hulk. And another expert witness explained how every time the Invisible Girl went invisible in public, invariably a couple ordinary people witnessing this had to be taken to the hospital for panic attacks...

Imagine the noise complaints back when the Thing and the She-Thing (in the early 90s) were doing it?

Buffy and Spike condemned a house from fuck### too hard, and they have a fraction of the super strength a cosmic ray powered Thing has.

I didn't really see much of the DC comic line growing up but Batman was probably the one I knew most about (followed by Superman)

As for Marvel, the superhero side was usual the second strip to the normal mag. In that case, it was mainly Spiderman (Though they replaced it with a Rocket Story once and a future version of Iron man showed up as part of one featuring Machine-Man?)

Since the newer films have come out though, I'm probably going to say Iron Man for Marvel (though I like the others)

DC - Batman has always just had the edge.

Marvel: Mister Fantastic. When I was a kid back in the 60s, I wanted to be Reed Richards, smartest man in the world, striding across my lab as if drawn by Jack Kirby, wearing my crisp white lab coat over my cool blue uniform.

DC: Supergirl. Also back in the 60s, I had a big crush on Supergirl. In the days of the original blue miniskirt. It was never the same after she switched to the red miniskirt (in large part to the art starting to suck).

Maybe this shows a new level of maturity from DC, or maybe they're just a wet sack of wussies.

DC - Batman - Batman is my all time favorite hero, even thought I like Marvel overall more.

Here's where I'll respectfully disagree. The rainbow lanterns for me were a breath of fresh air into a series that had been struggling. There were a. Host of interesting new characters, and fun stories that resulted.

I agree. I REALLY like the different lantern corps. It brought some cool stuff to the GL books.

What ruined the Green Lantern books was making the "emotional spectrum" a finite resource, and basically doing a version of TNG's "Warp 5 limit" plot point with the Green Lantern books. That said, that happened after Johns left the book (from what I remember, it was fairly recent but I've tried to block memories of post-Johns GL from my mind).

Chalk up another thumbs up for the rainbow Lanterns. That was probably one of the best new concepts introduced to a long-running series in a decade.

Yep, I get it guys. I'm in the extreme minority on this, or else Johns wouldn't have had as long a run on the characters as he did. Doesn't matter to me how many other people like the concept. I was perfectly happy with green, yellow and purple rings. I don't give two shits about red, blue, green, white, black and (for the love of god) ORANGE rings.

I never thought of it that way before. Have Adult Cyclops and Adult Wolverine commented on the fact that their younger selves are getting to third base with each other?

I don't think they've even kissed yet, but Jean had a tanty, read both their minds and ranted about how unfaithful he was to herself even though they are not an item and she was making out with Beast a week earlier.

And somewhere Adult Cyclopes is probably laughing his ass off about the whole thing since after all these years he finally gets revenge.

DC: Batman and Superman, with them occasionally switching place as to which is the most favoured.

Batman largely because he's one of the few superheroes who is known for his brains as much as his fists (pretty much a similar reason for Iron Man).

Superman because he's superman. Seriously, when he's written well he's the most likable superhero out of both DC AND Marvel. And his incredibly idealistic outlook perfectly contrasts Lane's rather cynical personality. It's just such a shame there's so little done with him and a lot done badly.

Purple rings were a Johns creation. Before that it was a crystal.

But no, I get what you mean. You're more than welcome to prefer the earlier Green Lantern stories.
