That's what I was thinking at the time. Out of morbid curiosity though, how much worse did it actually get and has it gotten better at all?

Here's where I'll respectfully disagree. The rainbow lanterns for me were a breath of fresh air into a series that had been struggling. There were a. Host of interesting new characters, and fun stories that resulted.

I agree. I REALLY like the different lantern corps. It brought some cool stuff to the GL books.
What ruined the Green Lantern books was making the "emotional spectrum" a finite resource, and basically doing a version of TNG's "Warp 5 limit" plot point with the Green Lantern books. That said, that happened after Johns left the book (from what I remember, it was fairly recent but I've tried to block memories of post-Johns GL from my mind).
