You could've made the Klingons use smaller, raider type ships, like the Defiant. But that's just me, y'all are clearly doing an amazing job and I can't wait to see more!

Although I do hope that some of the set designs from the new movies (including the transporter effect and the window viewscreen!) made it into y'all's production!

 

While no sets have been built, I have supplied a good portion of the set designs for Axanar, so I can tell you there is some USS Kelvin influence in the set design, but its triple viewscreens didn't make the cut. The bridge design borrows much more from TOS than JJ's Kelvin.

 

As long as it looks like a set from 2014 instead of 1965, I'll be excited!

No jellybean buttons please!

 

This is the most recent concept for the center helm console on the USS Ares in Axanar. It was shared on the Axanar Facebook page a few months ago. While we're keeping a decidedly retro flair, you won't find any jellybean buttons here!

 

But the TOS consoles were so tasty..!

Well done! Ergonomic overall, with hints of the VOY and TOS consoles. Though I admit I'm missing the ol' dual positions... I'm guessing a leaner ship like the Ares has no need for helm and navigator, but there isn't much evidence for a single-seat console in this era..?

Well, there's not really any evidence for Trek tech in the 2240's, haha. Our pictures of Trek time periods are usually one ship at a time. NX-01 from the 2150's. USS Kelvin from the 2230's. 1701 from the 2260's.

All three designs are being considered to contribute to the 2240's bridge look: the single-seat console of the NX-01, the secondary consoles of the USS Kelvin, and the somewhat minimalist aesthetics of the 1701.

But no sets have been built yet, so I'm sure everything is subject to revision.

 

I happen to think "jellybean" buttons can look great if you do them right. Enterprise made use of rubber appliance feet for many of their buttons. We used the same kind of buttons on the set of Polaris except that in addition to the grey ones, we used transparent ones which we painted (transparent paint) in different colors, and they look great. You can see both button types in this framegrab:

Nope. Dennis kept some pieces but the main set was demolished.

 

I should get this back on topic. For those wishing to see more Axanar concept art, some was posted to their FB page long ago. I recall seeing a corridor and a bridge set and they both looked good.

Prelude to Anxanar will debut at Comic-Con on the 26th.

The full film for Star Trek: Axanar is suppose to come out in 2015 after filming is finished this fall.

 

Getting my hands on the Axanar size comparison chart via Facebook, I thought I'd see just how much Axanar shrunk the new movieverse ships. It's a LOT more than I thought! Here it is for anyone interested:

And here's a window comparison. I'm really glad the details were modified to reflect the new smaller sizes, but I wish the saucers were modified a little more, like losing the ring around the top.
