X-Men DOFP is #3 domestically now behind Lego and Captain America 2. The only thing I can see surpassing it are The Hobbit and maybe Guardians of the Galaxy. It's pointless to compare with titles from previous years. Everything is relative.

Anyone see this btw?
X-Men: Apocalypse to be set in 1983

(Also is it too early to make a discussion thread for said movie details, or shall we just stick to this one. Seen as most discussion of the actual DOFP movie has died down now in this thread)

Anyway, so that's 10 years after the 1973 of DOFP. I know we've known it would be set in the 80s for a while, but still it's a shame we're missing out on 10 years of the X-Men though. The first 10 years really, seen as how first time round post-First Class it didn't sound like it lasted that long. And it was basically just "the school" rather than "the X-Men" as well.

Given how DOFP ended I'd assume Xavier & Beast went straight back to Westchester and started getting it all back running. Be cool if there was an opening montage or something to see what happened in the intervening time.

My main curiosity is how the present-day mutants are going to play a role in future X-Men movies. Will they play a role at all?

We brought Scott, Jean, and the Professor back from the dead. I'd love to see them in action one more time!

And speaking of Jean...is Famke Janssen some kind of ageless sorceress? I'm pretty sure she's looked the same since the 80s.

It's true. Even in Taken 2, where they weren't putting in any effort to make her look younger, she still looked amazing.

I really want them to make a movie about the fall of Angel and his stint as one of the Four Horsemen. That only really works with the modern team so I'd also really like to see the original cast wheeled out one more time...

Simon Kinberg has said that the film will be a mesh of SOME of the original cast (originally it was just the First Class but in recent press he's amended this statement) but mostly will focus on the "First Class" cast. We know Channing Tatum will be playing a recast Gambit...and that Bryan Singer has stated he has contemplated about having a young Nightcrawler.

I'd like them to re-use Nightcrawler but I'd also prefer them not to go out of their way to overwrite much of the earlier movies. The principle reason that I've struck First Class off my 'official' X-movie chronology is the cock up naming an American CIA agent Moira MacTaggert when they'd already featured Moira.

I wonder how much of DoFP's success was due to featuring both casts. I'm sure it helped, which might bode well for the Star Wars sequels.

They can't keep the original movie cast going forever. If they have to re-cast then re-cast but don't retcon too much (except Banshee obviously) and don't reboot.

Like two people can't have the same name?

C+.

Definitely a step up from the stuff that followed X2, but that is faint praise as the saying goes.

I feel like we are in an endless loop, nay, a Groundhog Day of time travel films, and that we can't break out of that until we each learn how to be a better person, or something. This film did not help on that account. All in all, it was pretty much by-the-numbers.

The high point was Quicksilver's (yeah, we all know who he is) slow-mo scene, which is pretty bad, since that proves he stole the film. Nixon deploying classic Sentinels might have been a contender for best scene, but that was ruined by the excesses in Magneto's powers, which were unbelievable on multiple fronts pretty much all at the same time. The level of suspense in the story was nil.

This was phoned-in on almost all fronts; I'm not flunking it, just because I recognize there was effort involved in certain areas. However, it was certainly not worth $40 for a night out for two, despite how nice it looked in AVX 3D.

That could be cool. Would also be neat to have our first new look of the X-buddies be at the tail end of a mission, 007-style.

She could be Joe MacTaggert's mum I suppose but it's a pretty distinctive name. The only reason to call her that was as a nod to the fans and then to do it in a way that rails at canon and continuity (which will likely irritate those same fans) was an odd choice. I think there were a few other continuity glitches in the movie too.

I really liked it but not enough to overlook the errors. At the moment X1, X2, X3, the Wolverine, and XDoFP sit together nicely. I'm happy with that, although I still want Banshee to re-appear.
